Quest stuck without menu options

I just updated my old quest; it's an original, not quest 2 and it had been sitting in a cabinet unused for a while so I clicked into system & update its software... I now am stuck without a menu bar & unable to do anything but look around at the dome home screen.

Restarting did not resolve the issue.

Can anyone help me out here?

  • Hey, dan.michel.716. I know a factory reset is not normally the first option someone would want to try if their menu was missing in your headset, and I get wanting to make sure that everything works as soon as you take it out of the box, especially as a Christmas gift.

One option you can try besides a factory reset is to just reboot your headset. You can do this by either holding the power button down for a few seconds until you see the Power Off screen and then select the Restart button. Or, you can hold the power button down for about 10 seconds, wait for about 30 seconds, then turn the headset back on to do a hard reboot.

If you still can't see the menu, then the next best option would be to do a factory reset. This would basically reimage the device and should remove any glitches in your headset. Or, you can send a PM to support so this can be looked into further.

Hello there, @MeridianTreehouse1! We see your Quest is having an issue with showing the menu bar after being updated. We appreciate you troubleshooting on your own so far by restarting your device. We have a couple more suggestions to offer to try and get your menu bar back.

Since a simple restart didn't work, we'd like for you to try a hard reboot. Simply hold the power button for at least 10 seconds and then let the device sit for 30 seconds before turning it back on. If a hard reboot doesn't work you can also try the following steps:

    1. Sign out of the mobile app
    2. Turn off your headset and phone for about 5 minutes
    3. Sign back into the mobile app
    4. Make sure your headset is paired again
    5. Check for the menu bar

If none of these suggestions work for you, just let us know. We'll troubleshoot until we can get you back in the game!

Why is a multi-billion dollar company putting out products and making the users (essentially) beta-test them for you? My menu has also mysteriously disappeared, and I refuse to believe that a factory reset is the only option for this brand new (received on Xmas Day) product. Do better.

        Hey, keyair567.2024!
If you mean launching apps from the Meta Horizon mobile app, you can!

        Open the Meta Horizon app
        Tap Menu, then Casting
        Tap your headset
        Tap Start

Once you're casting, you should see Apps on the left side of the screen
        Tap Apps
Select the app you want to open
        Tap Open

Let me know if that works!

No solution still but here is some workarounds

      No menu coming on.

-Need press meta logo button on Right Controller 5 times for bug report.

-Click on description bring up virtual keyboard

-Click on settings gear icon -bottom right

-And back arrow at top -Virtual keyboard

And all settings can be accessed.

can buy and play - lauch apps or games -from phone app and if

Go settings -help at bottom -support- and -appsand Games on website.

Then store window comw on to navigate kind a .last picture.

Then on phone app or same support page browse store for game, then hit launch.

      Few extra step needed but

      working fine otherwise -

FACTORY RESET OR SIDELOAD FIRMWARE UPDATE DO NOT HELP.

Still no menu but Store page can be restored if the correct firmware installed

But next update create a no menu loop- 5x meta button no longer works-

and need to side load any firmware again.

NO MENU ISSUE.FOR SPARES REPAIRS ONLY.

Also Browser can be accessed- settings-help -meta support -scroll down middle left-youtube icon -sign in -terms at bottom -faq at top -scroll down google left bottom. And then browsing can be used one page back forth.

Hey brando.63380! Thank you for bringing this to our attention, this is definitely not the experience we want our users to have.

We would like for you to try the following steps as an attempt to resolve this issue:

      • Ensure your headset is fully charged
      • Completely turn off your headset
      • Hold the power off and volume down (-) button at the same time until a menu appears
      • Select "factory reset" on the menu
      • This should prompt the screen to restart and go through the process of setting up your headset again

Note you may need to redownload your current games, but still tied to your account so there would be no need to re-purchases anything you already have tied to your account

If you are still receiving issues after these steps, please submit a bug report and we will be sure to send this to the appropriate team! In order to conveniently report a bug if the above steps do not work, click here

We hope to hear back from you!

I got to this old post looking for a solution because I was having the same problem with my quest 3. No matter how many times I pressed menu or rebooted the headset, the menu bar didn't show.

I was just going to do the factory reset but my controllers died so I without thinking made the menu gesture with the hand tracking and... the menu appeared again normally. Odd glitch.
