Quests 2 and 3 will not charge with battery packs after update.

Was this done on purpose to force people to buy the meta brand battery straps? Because headset was fine. Got an update, suddenly won’t charge correctly. Keeps disconnecting, and shutting down. Other headset was fine. Got an update. Same thing. Got a new headset. Fine. Update, same thing. I might have a software engineer friend of mine try to figure out if this was done on purpose. Then a class action lawsuit. Against meta. Or, meta, you can fix this before the public embarrassment. You wanna sell the four when it comes out. It’s advised you roll back whatever garbage is causing this. I buy a lot of meta products, I just don’t like your battery option because I don’t want more weight on my head. Fix this now. I said this as respectfully as I can, without a lawyer.

  • I honestly also wonder if meta is doing this to soft brick headsets to sell more. Because even plugged in they commonly disconnect. Even with a new headset. Bought and returned several. As soon as update hits, it starts. But fine before that.

That would be included on a class action lawsuit. This issue has been reported by many across social media and a large amount of reports all started around the same time. It’s either extremely suspicious, or extremely incompetent. And with the testing of many new headsets, plugged directly into the chargers sold with the headsets, and the issue not happening until after an update, it is certainly a software issue. Fix it before it costs you. Unless you want to tank your reputation for vr products. Less headsets sold, nobody new buys your software. Tell your people to get on this now. This isn’t a request. Been making videos to showcase the issues with the new headsets. And you are about to get the review of a lifetime if you don’t.

  • Also. If this is reported as solved, like so many other unsolved issues, I will make sure to contact corporate and escalate this to a supervisor. More than once I’ve found the right channels for doing so. In which case, chance it with your job in a collapsing economy. About 60 percent of the populace in most countries are one week away from homelessness. One bad decision. So do your job for your sake. There have been far too many ignored (“solved”, but obviously not solved according to the complaints below each list) issues with your headsets and software.

  • I’m also collecting testimony across social media and getting input and feedback on this issue to include in posts and videos about this. YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Reddit, will all be shown that this issue is persistent, and almost certainly began with these updates.

Wow, this is incredible. I’ve never seen someone run an entire investigation, legal strategy, corporate audit, and social‑media documentary series all by themselves in a troubleshooting forum. Truly inspirational.

Just to clarify though—none of us here are Meta executives, engineers, or shadowy headset‑sabotage masterminds. We’re just other users… reading your five‑part monologue like it’s a season of a show we didn’t know we were watching.

If Meta is secretly soft‑bricking headsets to sell battery straps, I’m sure your friend’s cousin’s roommate who ‘does software engineering’ will crack the case wide open. Until then, you might get more traction by submitting an actual support ticket instead of threatening class‑action lawsuits to a room full of random people who can’t even reset your router.

But hey—please keep us updated. At this point I’m invested in the lore.

  • I have this problem too. Meta Quest 3 + Meta Elite battery strap + Meta charging dock. Problems started after updating to v79 or v81 and after v85 update it just got worse. Either headset or battery strap won't charge properly or they don't charge at all.

3 days ago they were 74%  headset+ 25% battery back and I put them to charging dock. A day later they were still charging and I restarted headset and let them charge again. Yesterday they were 76% + 25% and I played for some time and after that battery lvl was 25% +0%. I disconnected battery strap and tried to charge headset with cable without the dock. Today it was 74% + 0% and now I let the battery strap charge with cable.  How hard can this be? 😵‍💫

I always make sure that headset is shut down when charging and I don't place controllers to dock before headset is fully charged. Original charger + cable in use.

I also have the Elite strap with battery, but I've had zero problems with it in the 7 months that I've owned a Q3.

What I have found is that if I want to plug the charge cable into the Elite battery, I must first fully power off the headset by pressing the power button for 5 seconds while wearing the headset. This brings up the Power menu. I then select Power off from that menu and wait until the headset has fully shut down and wait until the battery meter screen has appeared and also switched off. Then I plug in the charge cable to the Elite battery. If I don't do this "ritual", the Elite battery won't recharge at all. But if I do, it works great.

      Hope that helps.

I also follow this process with my Q3 Elite battery strap.  While this work ok to fully charge the strap battery, it never seems to charge the headset battery above 75-80%.  Also, the elite battery headset light doesn’t work anymore, not since around v74.  I’m kinda getting tired of of doing bug reports on all these, lol!

  • My headset got v85.1034 update few days ago and now it's charging properly again. Must have been software related issue.

That's good to know. I can also see my hands again when I'm in the Link dashboard, after the last Link update.
