Rash with Quest 3

Anyone else getting a rash with the standard Quest 3 headset - supplied fabric facial interface?

Never had this before with Quest Pro, Pico or Index and have no (known) allergies, and have done nothing to make me sweat so it's not that. 

Has happened after only a few short uses of the headset, on my forehead and under one eye.

      I got a reply from Meta support with this message....

      "You should receive a follow-up message with additional questions or information shortly and within 24-48 hours. In the meantime, we recommend discontinuing use of the product."

      THIS WAS FOUR DAYS AGO. I think that says a lot about Meta's commitment to Health & Safety.

      Since this week my wife, who's been using the Quest 3 with Les Mills Bodycombat, started to suffer from bloated cheeks (so much so she sees the cheecks when looking forward). The next day her eyes were halved in size. She already bought skincare products but it's obvious the standard facial interface is the cause. The link to get help is useless (Europe based) as the options offered for support for Quest 3 doesn't include this nor is there a general option available for miscellanous issues. Guess we'll resort to getting a silicone cover from a third party unless Meta can send a silicone version as replacement?

    Yes getting one now. Couldn’t work out where it was coming from. It’s all over forehead and ear and it’s itchy and bumpy. Nothing else been near my skin

      Sad, but also reassured to hear it;s not just me.  Have seen other posts on Reddit too.  I have NEVER had anything like this before with a headset (Index, Pico4 and Quest Pro) so there is definitely an issue with the stock face mask material!!!  I do hope Meta don;t try and dodge this with nonsense about "sweat, allergies" etc etc as that is obviously complete nonsense. 

      I received a support message promising a response in 24-48hrs.  It's been THREE DAYS now and nothing. I do think that also says a lot of just how much Meta value "health and safety issues" as they thermselves classed it.

        I’ve ordered the silicon facial cover so will see how that goes. Weird how it took over three weeks to appear but can’t be anything else

    ONE WEEK now with NO response from Meta.  Health & Safety is apparently a top priority for them. Hmm.

      Thanks 🙂  Yes I do know this and suspect it's what Meta will try and make me do instead of just returning the whole thing to them.  I'm sure they'll delight in trying to 'solve' the issue by expecting me to shell out another £40! Although there are of course plenty of third-party options on the way.

      If they ever bother to even reply that is - given that they promised a response within 24-48 hrs - and that was seven days ago!

      Tbh right now the complete lack of response does not bode well for the future, as if this is what I can expect from customer service then I do wonder if I should just return it and wait for the next Valve headset (deckard) instead.

      Btw, I've had many different interfaces over the years (this is not my first headset) and never suffered such a rash, and it is most definitely a contact rash and not dermabrasion.

        Well, Meta is not going to custom knit you a facial interface, so if the one that comes with it doesn't work getting the silicon version is a good alternative.

        Considering the chronic reliability issues with the Valve Index controllers which some people had to return upwards of 5 and 6 times, I would not go believing Valve is some panacea.  Not to mention, their ergonomics were terrible on the face buttons/sticks.

    Yeah I’m suffering with this too. Meta support just told me not to use it! I don’t get it from Pico or other headsets. Frustrating that meta seem to use cheaper materials.

    You can also get just a silicone cover on Amazon for about $10 to $12. They look like they should cost about $1, but they cost $10 to $12. The one I got fits over the cloth very well. Its a much better fit than the cover I had for the quest 2, and that cover came from meta. I think it must be the shape of mask that makes it easier to cover.

    My son has a terrible rash with the quest 3 on his lift eye it started with a pimple from the headset and swelling around his eye. He required urgent care and is on an antibiotic. We have returned the quest 3 and this should be known for future parents to not have to deal with this. He had an allergic reaction to the sponge part around the lenses .

    Quest had the same problems with the Quest 2, but instead of telling you to buy the silicone interface, they gave you one. (https://www.meta.com/device/1WMHH820RF0352/claim-silicone-cover/) With my Quest 3, the area above my nose actually started bleeding.  In about 3 square inches into my eyebrow area, the skin dried out and started scaling off in layers.  We should all receive free silicone replacements.

        Sadly Meta do NOT seem to take Health & Safety seriously as they have known about multiple people suffering the same issues with this stock interface, and have done nothing. With the Quest2 they offered alternative silicone gaskets but this time they are just not interested in this option, and I can only assume this is because they appear to value profit over customer safety.
