[edit] - NOT AN ACTUAL SOLUTION - THIS ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED YET - WE'RE STILL WORKING ON IT - NOT A SOLUTION BUT UPDATES ON ISSUE - marking this comment as the solution since I want to make sure everyone can see the updates right away and not be missed. (sorry again for misleading solution but it is necessary *so that everyone can see the updates*)
[Edit 10/17] - The team has provided me with this - Elite Strap with Battery shows up in VR briefly when connected to the headset. After that you must hover over the battery indicator to see the battery levels of headset and strap separately. Display shows the average. Please let me know if you're able to view the percentage correctly!
[Edit 10/16] - Looks like the team has provided me with some troubleshooting and have let me know that they are currently working on this issue. Let me know if anything below helps out or not and I'll pass it along:
- Make sure the Quest 3 headset has the latest software version.
-
Unplug and replug Elite Strap into headset. Make sure the headset is powered ON.
-
Press the battery once on the Elite Strap and check LED color.
-
Green: Fully Charged
-
Orange: Charging
-
Blinking Orange: Low Charge
-
Blinking Alternating Colors: Error. Try resetting by pressing the button for > 12 seconds while not attached
-
No LED: charge the Elite Strap for at least an hour. This means a very low battery level.
-
-
If Elite Strap is not charging the headset
-
Try unplugging and replugging from headset
-
Try unplugging and replugging from AC adapter
-
If nothing works, try holding the button down for >12 seconds
-
-
If Elite Strap is not getting charged by the headset through the dock, make sure to wait at least 2 hours until the headset is fully charged. Charging prioritizes the headset.
-
To reset the Elite Strap with Battery, hold the button down near the back of the strap by holding the buttons down for > 12 seconds.
Hey hey, guys! I was scrolling through reddit and I noticed a couple posts about this issue so I decided to gather them up and ask someone about it. As soon as I get some updates, I'll edit this post.
Thanks!

Since you're already here. Can you pass the WiFi 6E (6GHZ) connectivity issue? I see more and more people (me included) unable to make Quest 3 detect/connect to the 6GHz network no matter what settings we use. This used to be a problem with Quest Pro before untill v57. Now it's a problem with Quest 3. Personally I am unable to play using other than 6GHz wifi due to congestion in my area so 6GHz is my only choice. So is the case for many other people who want to play wirelessly through VD with the newest AV1 codec. Can you aknowledge the issue and pass it to the dev team?

This is something I've definitely seen asked about plenty of times and that they're looking into currently. If anything, I would recommend making a different post since this issue isn't related to that one at all.

I have also the problem with the elite strap. The System version is 49698210077900510.
- TheAntiSocializerRetired Support
Thanks for reaching out! System version should be somewhere around 57+
Along with that, could you answer the other questions in my comment by any chance?

Same issue. Connects, shows extended battery connected, shows both in % then that goes away within a second or two. Did not charge through to the headset when plugged into the strap battery. Nothing loose feeling on the usb connection, both headset/battery charged to 100% (separately) and showing green lights.

Is anyone working on the Quest 3 elite battery issue? It charges but won’t connect to the headset for more than a few seconds, meaning you cannot charge through the back port.
My Q3 Elite battery strap is working and charging fine. I've been using the supplied Q3 18w charger/cable with the elite battery connected to the headset and it all charges up both the strap battery and headset battery fine.
When connected it shows up on my quick settings menu. Hovering over this shows the charge levels of each battery. With both initially at 100%, the strap battery is used first, maintaining the headset battery at 100% until the strap battery shows 0% (and then overall shows 50%).
I'm not sure why some are having problems with this. The only tip I can offer that seems to work well for me is to fully power down the headset (with strap battery connected) and wait for the white light to turn off before plugging in the charger to the back strap usb-c port. Doing this, the orange light comes on, and eventually turns green. I usually see this takes about 2 hours to fully charge.
If you are still having problems, contact meta support I guess.

What is your software version?

The current software version for my Q3 is 57.0.0.297.669
Looks like it's the same as yours. Also, there isn't any PTC with the Q3 yet, nor is it planned for the upcoming v59 update, so say the mods.
Another thing to check is that your charger is properly connected to your power plug. Maybe test it with another device or external battery. I initially found one of my power points was not making good contact and this was why it didn't initially seem to charge.

Yes I have had 2 strap that did this. I keep returning them to Best Buy and getting a new one. They worked for a couple days then stop

Same. My third replacement was today. Yes I have gone through four of them. Each one have eventually the same issue. I'm going to return the fourth one as well and just look for a third party solution after reviews come in.

Wow, seems to be a real problem for quite a few now. One thing I did that I think helped me was to disconnect the Elite battery strap cable, make sure the Q3 is fully powered down, and then use the supplied Q3 charger/cable to fully charge the headset until its green light came on. Then disconnect the charger from the headset, wait for the green light (or any light) to go off. Then connect the elite strap battery rear usb-c to the charger/cable and press the little button next to it to see that it's powered and charging, Then plug the elite strap battery back into the headset. The headset light should then go orange, then green when both are fully charged.
Since doing this I haven't had any problems. Once both have finished charging I usually just leave it connected to the charger/cable during the day. Overnight I usually disconnect the Elite battery from the charger/cable, followed by disconnecting the Elite battery strap cable from the headset. I do this because, unfortunately, like the Q2 Elite battery strap, it continues to draw power if it stays connected. I tested this overnight and my Elite battery drained about 15% overnight. So, still a battery management issue for Meta to sort out, maybe by the Q5, lol!
All I can add to this thread so I'll sign out for now. Good luck mates and cheers.

Yep, same issue here. I also can’t get the quest 3 to stay connected to the PC to transfer some movies. Keeps disappearing.
so wondering if this is perhaps a USB port issue?

I've exactly the same problem, when trying to connect the Quest 3 to my computer. After a few seconds i loose the connection. I tried several cables and other ports. The same happens to my battery strap. It must be a problem with the USB-C Port of the Quest 3!

Glad I’m not the only one

Same problem here. Worked day one never again after. I get a prompt to update on power off but it only flashes for a second then powers off. It’s also worth noting when I connect the strap to my phone to charge it, it also shuts off after a couple of seconds.
Just something I saw in one of my flight sim forums that may help some;
Have got the quest working again, if it happens to you just plug in charger and press the down volume button for approx 1 min
to let the unit re-boot itself

Same issue here. When I plug in the Elite Battery Strap it only shows that it is charging for a few seconds then stops/disconnects itself.
I ran a couple of tests to try and troubleshoot this:
- When I plug my old powerbank (I use on my quest 2) into my quest 3 it says charging the whole time with no disconnection issues. Works fine and as intended.
- When I plug the Elite Battery strap into my phone to charge it, it says it is charging then it suddenly stops much like it does on the headset.
- When I plug the Elite Battery strap into my Quest 2, it begins charging but then also stops after a few seconds.
So it would seem it's more of a problem with the Elite Battery not consistently outputting power or staying connected to the device it is trying to charge?- ThriceAlmightyExplorer
This is very helpful.
- andrew_vrExplorer
The elite battery strap not charging other devices (e.g. a phone) might be deliberate - it's clearly designed to communicate with the thing you plug it into so maybe Meta didn't want it to act as a general power bank for reasons. What might be significant is that the behaviour is the same as when plugging it into the Q3 headset - maybe it's the communication that's not working.
- Nemesis2KProtege
I just got a replacement strap and plugged it into my phone and it’s charging without turning off. So this is a strap problem.
- tazdavid1Protege
That is interesting, but here is what I did. It might not have been a good idea, but I plugged my usb-c cable from My Quest 1 into the elite strap with battery usb-c connection and got nothing, but plugging that same cable into the Quest 3 headset directly, it did charge it as I saw the orange light come on. Makes me wonder if the elite strap with battery is faulty somewhere

To answer the questions:
Version: 57.0.0.297.669.526537896
Runtime version: 57.0.0.295.669.526236543
Not on PTC
No workaround known
(Oh, and I have been able to transfer files onto the headset from a PC via the USB port so I think that's working fine).
