Startup issues

Hello There, I've recently been having my Quest 2 start to lock up on me for a few seconds while playing games and stuff and just last night, it will load to the startup area but, show no menu options. I mean literally nothing that would normally be front and center like the horizon feed, etc is visually there. Pressing the meta button does nothing but make a dull like error sound.

Trying to press the power button for the selectable power options does nothing and a hard reset boots in back into the same thing of none of the free floating menus showing. I saw that a factory reset might fix things but trying to move over saves manually is taking hours right now when normally it would take minutes.  I'm at a loss right now about what it would be. Still not done with the saves.

Model:Quest 2 256GB

Bought used from ebay back on the near end of 2022.

I'm trying to update via the software update link above but, shortly after I get the download started, the headset restarts itself and it loses connection to the update.

You can try to update as decribed in the video, instead of using the Meta update tool.

  • Okay so, a quick update. I tried the all-in-one guide up above and try to sideload the newest available firmware but, instead of being able to see the animated VR background, it would put it in either a plain blackness or sometimes only go to the pass-through view and nothing further. So I tried my hand at the official update above the all-in-one and got it to complete but, I still can't get into the animated horizon menu. So unless there's something else I can try, I'm going to go back to moving over files and then I guess give a last ditch effort to factory resetting and hoping for the best.

Yes, I think you have to factory reset your headset.

If you have more than one account on the headset, the select user screen at the start is in passthrough.

But if you have only one user on the Quest, you should start right away in your home environment.

I hope, factory resetting will fix your issue. 🤞

  • So after getting relevant files from the device, I started the Factory Reset and, functionality was restored or so it seems. I'll have to redownload some games and give it the gas,. If everything seems like it worked properly, it's been fun having you on this journey with me and, thank you all for your advice.
