SteamVR freezes whole pc + picture freezes

Hello i have AX3000 Tp Link WIFI 6 router, initially as i setup Quest 3 for the first time steamVR worked flawlessly. But there were 2 automatic updates on my Quest 3 and since when i move around my picture freezes and i see empty black space around me + textures flicker!

Steam support wasn't much helpful so far!

I am using Air Link and Open XR is handled by Oculus!

I tried to reinstall steamVR and meta link app clean! But issue persists.

Meta store games work fine!

There is 0 traffic on my WIFI 6 router...

And i have it in same room i am playing! No other wifi at least from my flat, but it worked flawlessly first time!

This issues started happening abruptly after first update!

Sometimes starting steamvr or quitting on Quest 3 freezes even my whole pc ( steamVR is known for this supposedly)...

Please advice thanks!

BTW: How again to tell if updates finished on Quest 3? HMD won't restart, no led flashing, i am not sure if it is safe to turn on, i waited like hour left it charging!

Hmm tried 100 things with chatgpt, seems like Using steamlink now it works fine... You can set boudnaries on desktop didn't see that and was confused how to set them. Vr i so counter-intuitive there is no user manual and youtube videos are useless that to even make it work is miracle!

  • Hi,

Steamlink uses their own runtime. Could you see if there's an option to change the runtime in steam to utilize the quests runtime?

  • woodpecker333 there are several possible causes:

    • you need to decrease the render resolution multiplier for VR in the Steam panel settings. If it is set too high, Steam will judder badly.
    • if the Link dashboard is also unstable, then you need to set a lower encode bitrate in the Link dashboard. Try 70 Mbps. If that gives you a stable connection, then try slowly increasing it until you find the maximum stable bitrate setting your system can handle. AirLink default is 200, but as of a few days ago, I've had to decrease this to 70, I'm not sure why. If you are unable to get into the Link dashboard because it is too jerky, then you can set the Encode Bitrate using the OculusDebugTool.
    • you might need to try using a different OpenXR runtime for certain games.
