stuck at boot loop after update v79 quest 2

Was unlucky to update quest 2 to v79 (standard), it messed up usb connectivity on all my cables took me a while to read about update being at fault and not cables or usb-c port, thought beta might allready have a fix for it, activated beta updates via phone, updated to v79.130 something i believe and got stuck at boot menu or "usb update mod" no options work aside from "device info" and "power off", upon choosing any other option screen goes dark for a sec then meta logo without animation and im back to bootload menu (usb update mod)

have a strong suspicion that update bricked it

    Hey NotOFFENSIVEname

Being stuck on the boot menu is no good. Let us try and help you with this. As you've made it to the USB update mod can we have a suspicion that you're attempting a factory reset? But as you've stated you can't select the factory reset option in the boot menu.

We have something for you to try here, it's called the Software Update Tool to use it you will require a connection to your PC with your USB cable. I understand that USB connectivity is currently an issue but go ahead and try anyway. The link will explain the process in easy to follow steps.

Let us know how this goes so we can help you further if needed.

Thanks for your efforts so far.

Hi @NotOFFENSIVEname and thanks for your reply.

Your Quest 2 being stuck in a boot loop after the v79 update is definitely not the experience we want you to have and we also understand that this affects your ability to use your device so we want to get this resolved for you.

We appreciate the steps you've already taken with using Meta's Software Update Tool and we would now recommend a factory reset of your device.

Here are some important things to know before you proceed with a factory reset:

        - Performing a factory reset is irreversible and will remove all account information, downloaded games and content from your Meta Quest.
        - It won't remove content you've purchased or downloaded from your account.
        - Turning on cloud backup allows you to save your device's app data and settings before you erase it.
        - Ensure that your headset has at least 50% battery life before performing a factory reset.

How to factory reset your Meta Quest:

        1. Turn off your headset.
        2. Hold the power and volume (-) buttons on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen has loaded on your headset.
        3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
        4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

If your Quest 2 is still stuck in a boot loop after the factory reset, please let us know so we can look into the other options we have.

We appreciate your patience while we're looking into this matter and we'll be looking forward to your update.

  • I have already stated in my first post that i cannot use factory reset or any other function aside from power off and device info, in case of factory reset it gives a submenu of confirmation and upon selecting yes screen goes black for a second and then im back at boot menu, other options such as "sideload update" or "boot device" do the same thing, upon activating them screen turns off for a sec and then im back to bootload menu

  • long story short, headset is bricked my only option was to deal with customer support, customer support seems full of ai chatbots that respond with generic bloated msges and constantly derail the conversation because each new response seem to be from a different "person", support just like its software - utter crap, i'd rather shoot myself than deal with meta ever again
