System UX crashes when trying to launch Quest Link (v79.1030)

Today my Quest 2 headset installed build v79.1030, which was having an issue that caused it and previous versions to always display as v79.1027.

After clearing through all available updates, I tried to launch Quest Link after connecting to my bridge. This is where the problem starts rising; Opening the Quest Link menu would always crash the UX and make Quest Link inaccessible. Going to the link status (via Settings → Link) does not crash the UX, and is as close as I can get to launching Quest Link.

Trying to hit the Launch button while the pop-up is fading in does nothing since it waits for the fade-in to finish before it becomes interactable.

Because this was happening on the system level, I went as far as factory resetting the headset and attempting to reinstall all system updates without any interference. This part was a success (and it also resolved my possibly broken build,) but the UX still crashes when trying to launch Quest Link.

I also submitted system diagnostics thru the headset's built-in reporter, so hopefully something can be seen.

    Hey B00ie23,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have a few suggestions you could try!

Please try downloading the Meta Quest Link App installer here - and then choose the 'repair' option from the installer.

You should also try using different USB 3.0 ports - try using some of the ports on the rear of your computer if any are available. These will be more reliable as they come from your motherboard rather than PC case.

Also double check if you have Air Link enabled - it can cause conflicts with the cable!

Are you sure this answer isn't meant for someone else?

The Link popup in the headset isn't accessible. It has nothing to do with the Link app.

B00ie23  doesn't even get to the point of having problems with the Link app.

I appreciate the suggestion, but this issue does not impact the PC software- it is behaving as expected, although it's nice to refresh the software ensuring it's stability.

The issue rests within the Quest 2 headset itself; the OS is partially broken that prevents me from launching Link while connected to a bridge. Keep in mind that I have already factory reset the headset as a last resort and completed all available updates.

If by any chance are there suggestions on how I can temporarily downgrade to a previous version (probably v79.1028) until a later build beyond v79.1030 releases?

        Hi again B00ie23!

Thanks for letting us know and clarifying the issue. That's a big help!

  • I am currently away from my home network and will be for some time, as I travel for work. That said, as best I can tell it appears the air bridge connection is the only one not working, but it is the best/most viable option in my current situation for connecting via Link.

That's not a problem at all. Thank you for letting us know.

We have looked into this for you and all the available troubleshooting is in the Air Bridge link that we gave you. Because the Bridge Link is no longer supported, there is no more steps for us to provide if the current ones don't work for you.

We know this may not be the answer you were looking for but we hope that you can still have a great time in the Metaverse!

If you get a chance to try the  Bridge and Airlink on your home network and the issue is still persisting, please let us know.

    Bad news:

D-Link VR Air Bridge stopped receiving firmware updates in December 2024 and is no longer supported on any Quest headsets.

  • Can we please stop focusing on the PC app and look into Meta Horizon OS on Meta Quest headsets running v79.1030 having this bug. I don't know how much more clearer I can be with this even after providing updated visuals.

The PC software and the Air Bridge itself are not the root of the problem here since the PC app still sets up the bridge without issue (lets me pair to it too,) and that Virtual Desktop still lets me run its own sessions through the bridge. It's the OS on the headset itself being bugged.

At this point I just want to clean reinstall v79.1028 back onto the headset and avoid updating.

      Hi again B00ie23,

Thank you for confirming that the issue is not due to your PC software nor the Air Bridge. We would therefore advise you to submit a bug report regarding the Meta Horizon OS.

To do so from the Meta Horizon mobile app:

      1. On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
      2. Tap Menu at the top of your Horizon Feed.
      3. Scroll down to Support, then tap Report an issue.
      4. Tap Report a problem, then type an explanation where prompted.
      5. Tap Send in the top right.

Further information on how to submit bug reports can be found here.

Also, please send us a private message so we can look further into the issue you are facing.  In order to send us a private message, please select our name to get to our profile page, or click here: https://metaque.st/CommunitySupport. can we go back to a previous version of the OS

No, of course not. It's a problem with your headset configuration, not the OS, otherwise everyone would be having this problem. What headset do you have and what version and build number are you on?
