The Quest 3 fails to charge after the v77 update

After updating to the v77 system, my Quest 3 has developed an issue where the battery level does not increase when charging while powered off. The only way I can get the battery to charge is by performing a forced restart (holding the power button for 30 seconds). If I shut it down again, even after turning it back on, the battery won't charge unless I force-restart the system. What could be causing this? I’ve tried a factory reset, but it didn’t fix the problem.

  • The issue is resolved. I just realized that the original charger was still in the packaging box😂, switching back to it fixed the problem. Before this, I had been using my 66W fast-charging adapter to charge the Quest 3. Now that third-party chargers can’t charge it, does this mean the battery has already suffered some level of damage?

crack.258309  probably not. The recent meta borkdates have been causing many charging issues as of late.

It still might be a good idea to monitor how long the battery is able to power the headset for.

  • I have the same problem with the new firmware update too, also a major increase in battery drain, sometimes headset can't charge up, and also dropping charge while shut down and wall plugged for charge.
    Factory reset didn't help.

I have contacted Meta support and i really hope is fixable and not a permanent damage to the hardware, which would be very weird.

Ipnonauta  if you do get a reasonable response from support, can you post it here to help others with the same issue. Hopefully it may just be a factory reset or update that fixes the problem.

oculusness  The Meta support avoided to give further explanations, but offered to send me another headset as a sostitution. Unfortunally even the refurbished headset have "quirks" related to charging (updated to v78). I could be very unlucky, or is one more suggestion that is firmware/software related more than hardware.

Nonetheless, as now, they gave no proper explanation on what went wrong and no solution for who is having the problem (fortunally not all).

  • Even with the official charger my headset won't gain charge at all, it only maintains the percentage it already had. This is really stressful because if it ever reaches 0% the device is just bricked
