Unable to add payment method

Since buying a quest 2, I haven't been able to buy anything on the store. Every time I try to add a credit card or PayPal, it says there's an error. 

I've tried removing all payment methods, using different browsers and devices, using different cards, removing all other payment methods, un syncing accounts. 

It sounds like lots of other people have this problem, but the only fix is to buy gift cards? I've heard some people end up losing money on gift cards when that doesn't work either.

  • This has definitely happened to a number of people. I had an issue which I discovered was my fault. I'm sure this isn't the same but thought I'd tell you on the off chance it might be useful. I registered my credit card but couldn't buy anything, it was being rejected. I then discovered when checking my banking app that international purchases were blocked......and it was me who did it, then completely forgot I did. Lol. I'm not saying this is a solution or it's even your problem, but just in case. Good luck. Hope it's sorted soon. 

  • Thanks for the suggestion! I checked monzo, apparently they don't block international payments. I've also tried using a Lloyds credit card, which I've used on holiday before, and paying for github (I'm in the uk, but paid in dollars) with no problem. 

    I also haven't had any notifications from my bank, so sadly I don't think this is the problem.

    you said, you haven't been able to buy anything so far. So, you won't lose anything if you just create a new account and add your cards to it?

    Surprisingly, sometimes it works without issues when people using another account....don't ask me what's going on there😂

      I've had a quest 1 for a few years, so I've got lots of games already that I don't want to lose access to. This has only started happening since I got the quest 2. No idea why!

        You should contact support through the community here, I did see they fixed a similar problem of another user. I think Choleni has the link. I don't, unfortunately. You just need to be signed into the community and they will ask for some security information that shouldn't be made public. 

  • As a follow up - I've bought a gift card and added it to my wallet successfully. I STILL can't buy games with the credit on my account. This is now clearly an issue with the store, and not my bank. And given that I've paid £15 for a giftcard I can't use, I think meta support need to actually do something.

    fizzybones​  In your web browser on your PC, log in to:

    auth.meta.com

    Look for "Other settings" in the list on the left-side of the page.

    Look for "Payment Methods" in the list on that page (it's quite far down).

    Add your credit card or Pay Pal account.

      Something went wrong

      We're having trouble completing your request. Please try again.

      I did find one of the many meta pay portals let me add a payment method, but I still couldn't buy anything on the quest store. Now I've added quest cash to my account with a gift card, I'd like to use that (it should be more reliable, it takes the bank out of the equation)

        It's not a bank issue..... it's an account issue.

        That's why for many people the second account is working even though they are putting in the same payment methods that are failing on the main account.
