Urgent: Meta Quest hardware inaccessible - Account disabled after security breach

Hello, I am writing this post because my sister-in-law is currently unable to use her Meta Quest headset, which has become a "paperweight" due to an unfair account ban.

Her account was compromised by a malicious third party (hacked) who posted unauthorized ads. We have already tried the standard appeal process, but it was rejected by an automated system without any human review of the evidence.

This is not just a social media issue; it is a hardware accessibility issue. She has purchased games and software that are now inaccessible. We are looking for a manual review from the specialized team to verify the suspicious login activity and restore her access to her Meta Quest device.

Device: Meta Quest 2 / 3

Account Email: [deleted]

Could a moderator please help us escalate this to a human agent? Thank you.

  • I'm here to say "same". đź’€

I had an email notification saying someone logged in from another country. By the time I went to check it, not even a few minutes later, the hacker had already got the account disabled because they failed the ID verification. They basically wrecked the account because they couldn't use it.

I've tried a million angles including getting a Meta Verified account, using Facebook for business, providing purchase dates/amounts, and sending a photo of the VR headset Serial Number.

I never lost access to the associated email address or phone number. So I'm shocked how easy it is to just brick an account from an outside attack.

I literally work in Cybersecurity, so I appreciate them locking the account down when they saw sketchy logins. It's my own fault for keeping my headset logged in with no MFA. Though, my password is incredibly complex... But I am absolutely astounded they don't give people ways to prove their identity. It's all just a mire of crappy AI decision making. Seriously, are there humans working for Meta? Or have they all been laid off for "business"?

I really hope a moderator can escalate this for a proper human review. If the account was compromised and unauthorized ads were posted by someone else, then an automated rejection doesn’t really solve the real issue — especially when paid Meta Quest games and apps are locked behind that account.

This feels similar to situations where people rely on online portals for important access, like checking a SASSA status check, and one account/security issue can block them from services they genuinely need. Meta should be able to verify suspicious login activity, device ownership, payment history, and past normal usage before permanently disabling access.

A manual review from the Quest/account security team would be the fair next step here. The headset shouldn’t become unusable because of a hacked account.

This is a user only forum dedicated to helping with headset issues. There are no people here for account issues. The moderators are also not Meta employees.. You need to contact Meta directly.
