v.85 PTC Release Thread

Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v85 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

Release Notes: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/172903867975451/

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v85:

1) For issues: Go to our Quest Forums and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v85" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v85 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

I've been getting not enough memory while starting up. The apps aren't even being used. Some games are a bit choppy.

Thanks. It used to drive me crazy too. I only use headsets with waranty now do to the costs acquired from being bircked and the cost of replacment. I enjoy getting updates early and testing them out. Often I don't agree with Meta but I'm not sure they care, still I like to help. Thanks agian for your thoughts.

  • Hey guys I'm a Unity developer using Meta SDK for a PCVR app. After receiving v85 update the passthrough stopped to work. My setup is:

    Unity version: 2022.3.62f2

    Meta SDK Version: 83.0.1

    Plugin Provider: Oculus XR Plugin

The error message that is thrown:

    """

Failed to initialize Insight Passthrough. Please ensure that all prerequisites for running Passthrough over Link are met: <a href="https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/unity/unity-passthrough-gs/#prerequisites-1">https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/unity/unity-passthrough-gs/#prerequisites-1</a>. Passthrough will be unavailable. Error Failure_OperationFailed.

    UnityEngine.Debug:LogError (object)

    OVRManager:InitializeInsightPassthrough () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.meta.xr.sdk.core@83.0.1/Scripts/OVRManager.cs:3667)

    OVRManager:InitOVRManager () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.meta.xr.sdk.core@83.0.1/Scripts/OVRManager.cs:2390)

    OVRManager:Awake () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.meta.xr.sdk.core@83.0.1/Scripts/OVRManager.cs:2524)

    """

Reminder:  If I downgrade the Meta Horizon Link to version v83 the passthrough works fine

If you are developing why are you using risky PTC software? Use the stable version. In the meantime report the bugs through the headset bug report option.. Not much point in doing it here. There are going to be plenty of bugs to be fixed before the stable release arrives.

Did you find a solution? My Link App just updated to v85 and I get the same Unity error like you and MR doesn't work anymore trough Link on both Link channels Public and Live. Really frustrating because I need to work on a Passtrough Unity Project and need it with link in Unity.

Edit: The solution is to download the Meta Horizon Setup from the web and then repair the install. It will downgrade it to v83 and Passtrough then works perfectly trough Link in Unity!

  • The link you've posted for the release notes points to a page that hasn't been uodated for 9 weeks, and of course therefore has no mention of v85. What's the point of a PTC when testers have no information on what they're supossed to be testing?

rickwookie  scroll down the page.... in the left corner set it to "english(US)" and it'll show you the release notes for v85.

The page isn't updated for all countries yet.

Btw. build v85 is already rolling out right now, not PTC anymore.

I've gotten 2 different updates but I can't see any difference in the version and how is it that us on the test channel haven't gotten the final release?  I'm  confused lol.

  • Hello, I am a person with a physical disability, specifically hemiplegia (partial paralysis on my right side), and I joined the PTC to check out the Surface Keyboard because it's very good for accessibility as I don't need to carry a mouse and keyboard. However, because my right hand is deformed and doesn't remain 100% still, it made scanning the keyboard very difficult. Would it be possible for us to indicate our disability and specify our dominant hand, so that it ignores movements of the other hand?

J0a0Santiag0 Hello my friend.. I am thinking that this would be extremely difficult to do. Even though you can choose your left hand for different apps and games with the controllers, it is the cameras/sensors at the front of the headset that "sees your hands". It's not really possible for it to not see one of your hands if it is in the view of the front of the device. If there was a way to hide your right hand, possibly under the desk or tray you might be able to use it more easily. I'm not sure if that is possible for you, but it's just a suggestion. Maybe if you contact Meta support through the Meta Horizon app, they might have a solution. Best of luck. ☘️🤞

      Hi J0a0Santiag0 🙂

So, if I understand you correctly, the "setup" of the keyboard is your problem?

If you could scan it, you are able to use it.....is that right?

Maybe replace your right hand with a (stuffed) glove for scanning of the keyboard. This should work ....... I hope, I can't test it.

      I don't have the surface keyboard feature.😅
