V79 – Unable to Launch Third-Party Player from Jellyfin and Other Media Servers
After upgrading to V79 (possibly starting from V77 or V78), clicking a video link from Jellyfin or other media servers no longer launches installed third-party players (such as 4XVR Player, Skybox, Moon VR). Instead of jumping to the player, the system freezes with a black screen for a while.
If the third-party player is opened beforehand and then a video link is clicked in Jellyfin for Android, a player selection window (similar to Android's “Choose an app” prompt) will appear, but it is non-functional—no player can be selected, and playback does not start.
Details:
Previous behavior (before V76):
Clicking a video link from Jellyfin or other media servers would automatically launch the installed third-party player (e.g., 4XVR Player) and play the video normally.
Current behavior (V77–V79):
Click video link → No redirection → Black screen for almost one minute.
Open a third-party player first → Open Jellyfin for Android → Click video link → “Choose player” window appears → Cannot select any player → Video does not play.
Impact:
Unable to watch 3D, panoramic, or other videos using preferred third-party players, significantly affecting the VR media viewing experience.
Test Conditions:
App: Jellyfin Android App
System Version: V79
Device: Meta Quest 3
Third-Party Players Tested: 4XVR Player, Skybox, Moon VR
Requests:
Fix the issue preventing the system from launching third-party players when clicking video links from media servers.
If a short-term fix is not possible, please provide a method to roll back to the stable V76 version.
Add an official rollback feature in future updates to handle similar situations more effectively.
Thanks:
Thank you to the Meta Quest team for your continued work and improvements. This feature is an important part of my daily use, and I hope it can be restored soon.
