v79.1027 external battery indicator missing after powering-off Quest 3

So after successfully updating my Quest 3 from v78.1031 to v79.1027, after powering off my Quest 3, the battery indicator now only shows one battery connected even though I have the Elite headstrap with battery connected to the headset (and I also have the USB charging cable connected to the Elite battery). Previously it would show both batteries.

I can temporarily fix this using these exact steps:

  • with the charging cable connected to the Elite battery, briefly press the button on the Elite battery. The orange light should come on for a few seconds.
  • after the orange light on the Elite battery has gone off again, disconnect the charging cable.
  • plug the charging cable back into the Elite battery (the light should stay unlit).
  • press and hold the button on the Elite battery until the green light comes on. Continue holding the button until the green light goes out, then release the button immediately (if you hold it too long, the green light will come on again and start flashing rapidly).
  • now put on the headset and briefly press the power button on the Quest 3. You should see both batteries in the display. However, after powering on your headset and powering it off again, it will once again only show one battery.

The Elite battery and headset seem to be charging fine, regardless of the above issue, and both batteries always show correctly within the headset UI settings menu. It's a minor problem, but it seems to be a bug, nevertheless.

    Hi there,

Thanks for posting into our forum. We see you're encountering a little issue with your device not displaying the battery icon for your Elite strap even though it's plugged in, yet they both charge fine.

Since this problem started after the most recent update, we'd ask that you submit a bug report to our engineering team so that they can triage it and fix this potential bug as quickly as possible!

Beyond this, you can also give the following troubleshooting a go to see if this resolves the issue with ease:

    • Reboot your headset
    • Reset your Elite Strap:
      • Disconnect the Elite Strap with battery from the headset and any chargers
      • Hold the button near the back of the strap down for 12-15 seconds

Hopefully this information helps out but if the troubleshooting doesn't work and nothing changes after submitting the bug report, please select our name to get to our profile page. Next, click "Send a Message" to privately message us! Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message.

    Thanks!

Thanks, but I already posted the exact steps on how to temporarily fix the issue 😁. Why can't Meta Support forward my report to the engineering team on my behalf, as trying to type a long and detailed bug report from within the headset itself is a major PITA and there is an annoying character limit to boot. It's not like I can simply type out my report in Notepad on my PC and just copy and paste it into my headset 😒.
