Visa payment method declined

Hey my oculus quest 2 won’t accept my Visa card for any games it’s worked in the past but now it won’t accept it can someone please help me. I’m

    Yeah I ran into something really similar and it’s super frustrating. Usually it’s not that your Visa is invalid, it’s just Meta’s system flagging the payment for some reason. Even if it worked before, things like region mismatch, small billing detail differences, or too many attempts can trigger that “unusual activity” error.

     

    What worked for me was going into the Meta account payment settings and adding the card from there instead of during checkout. Also I had to remove my other payment methods first, otherwise it kept failing. After that it finally went through. Sometimes it also helps to just wait a day or so because their system kind of cools off after blocking attempts.

     

    Honestly these issues happen a lot because platforms are really strict with card validation now. Banks are also changing how cards work to make things more controlled and transparent. Like with FAB, their card systems are designed so you can clearly see balances and usage without weird surprises. I was reading about it here balance online

    and it made me realize how much cleaner the process can be when everything is structured properly.

     

    So yeah your card is probably fine, it’s just Meta being picky. Trying again from settings or after some time usually fixes it.

    4 cards from 2 different banks, 2 of which I have used before to pay for Quest games (and even a subscription), nothing works. Can't make payments with the cards still in the system, can't add the others, tried removing and readding one and I can't add that either.

    My bank app popped up a notification saying they can't process payments from “Oculus* Payments”.

    Guess is it's not Meta refusing the cards, but the card operators refusing the transactions because Meta's system or registration or something is messed up.

    Well the fix is simple… I'll just stop spending money on Meta 🤷 why vendor lock myself into a platform that inspires this little trust anyway? Back to PCVR for me.

      I had a similar issue a few months back with a different platform, not Meta, but it was still a headache. Dealing with payment declines is the worst, especially when the card is definitely active and has funds. I went through all the usual steps, re-entering the info, clearing browser cache, trying a different device, calling my bank to make sure there wasn't a soft-block, and nothing worked consistently.

      The root of the problem often seems to be how certain payment processors or the platform itself handles the verification or security checks, particularly with newer or less conventional card types. Eventually, I switched to using a virtual card that's designed specifically for online security and different transactions, like Halocard, and haven't had a single issue since. It’s worked for both small purchases and larger subscription payments.

      If the standard troubleshooting steps aren't working, it might be worth looking into.

        marcus878 The virtual card is the best way. I have a couple of them registered and they work fine. There's also the bonus of an extra layer of security as you can set the limit to the exactly what you want for each card. Kudos to you! Everyone should do this. 👍👍

        Yeah it's still not working so I bought games before but for some reason all the cards was declining and it was telling to make a ticket or appointment or something

If you've already tried any available troubleshooting listed here in the thread and are still having issues adding your payment method, I do recommend reaching out to MetaStoreHelp since they might need to take a look at your account in the backend of things.

        Hi, my credit card is also not working. It fine this morning but now it tells me to use a different card, couldn't complete payment for some reason. How to fix this - what is wrong with my card?

    Hey everyone, this is an issue that should have been resolved within the latest update. There's a few users that are still having this issue, so I wanted to follow up in this thread and share that update.

    If anyone continues to have this issue after updating, please answer the following:
    Are you on a PTC build?
    Software Version Meta Quest Mobile App

      If this V60 update fixed things then may I ask where the complete log of the fixes and the list of still standing issues it to be found ?
      The payment issues, especially for Paypal is not a matter of what a user does but entirely HOW META handles things.

      Here is a suggestion : Do things like any other reputable company in the world does and those payment issues are fixed for good.
      Two years of this bogus and the bogus copy and paste replies from the support - and NOW Meta claims it is fixed while not even disclosing what they fixed and what the REAL issue was?
      We got to hear hear this more than enough times to know we can not trust this statement in any way - NO OFFENSE!

      I'm not sure what your thinking is meant to be resolved with the latest meta app, headset update. I still can't add my previous payment methods. It's meta wide, not just quest related. 

      I can't add my main payment methods to Facebook, ad, or Instagram. I can't add my payment methods through the meta website, which is obviously not the app or headset. 

      I'm using a temporary digital prepaid Visa debit card, that's costing me money to have (I don't need it anywhere else except in the meta universe, as all my normal payment methods work everywhere else in the world, just not with anything meta)

       

      So can you please tell me how an update to the app and headset is meant to resolve my issue of not being able to add payment methods?

    Tokens are usually used for security things....
    Can't be too sure but it seems in your case the authentication is stuffed somewhere.
    I had this a few times on Ebay and clearing the cookies and cache for the browser fixed it.
    Meta made some changes recently to 'fix' this by logging you out of all open Meta sessions in open browser windows.
    You might have noticed that you have to log in now a bit more often.
    It does not fix the cookie thing though and same for stored browsing data.
    You probably tried a different browser already I guess ?
    Did you try all the ways of adding a payment method ?
    E.g.: Through your account in the browser, the phone app or by signing up as a verified developer ?
    Not sure why but some users are able to add things with one of the above but not all.
