Weird PCVR Artifacts after X amount of playtime (Quest Link with Quest 3)

My case is very strange. I've been using my Quest 3 to play PCVR since its launch, and until about a month ago, I had no problems. Recently, though, I've been noticing my headset begin to artifact as I play for 20-30 minutes or more on PC. When I plug in the headset and start playing on PC, nothing noticeable is wrong, and I'm able to play normally without any issues. However, after a seemingly random amount of time (again, usually after 20-30 minutes of playtime), my headset screens will begin to distort and artifact. It starts small, but gradually begins to overtake the screens to where it's unplayable. Unplugging and replugging in the headset seems to fix this issue, but this is not ideal as it can cause the OVR software to crash with certain games if they are not closed before disconnecting the headset.

This only affects the headset screens and not my PC monitor, as I've been able to record gameplay through OBS with no issue. I've reinstalled the Quest Link software and got a new link cable, yet this issue persists.

Is anyone else having this issue? Are there any fixes to it, or does this seem like and update/headset issue?

  • Is it the whole screen that's affected, or the bottom third? If the latter, turn off sliced encoding in the Oculus Debug Tool. If it's the whole screen, it's not one I've come across. Sorry.

It starts off in the top third but then spreads across the whole screen.
