My favorite VR experience is still Walkabout Mini Golf. I can't tell you how many times I tried to walk up a step that wasn't there or lean on a railing that wasn't there. I think its good because it replicates something that most of us have done in real life, and they do a great job at it. The graphics may look like a N64 game, but I found the experience to be just about perfect.
I've been playing it for quire a while now, and it feels more like any other game to me now, but initially, it was great way to discover VR.
That is such a great game and yeah, it's funny how so many people get so immersed that they try to lean on a fence or something.
It's great proof that things don't have to look real in VR for people to experience true presence - is it more about being so comfortable that you do these things I wonder?

I think its partly that it is a slower paced game (at least with multiple players) and that you have time to look around and take it in. I think for me it was also that I was new to VR and still discovering how to interact (and avoid interacting) with the surroundings. But I agree that things don't need to look "real" to be immersive.
