When I smile, my Quest 3S lifts up.

Hello, everyone! I've noticed that when I smile with my Meta Quest 3S, the headset lifts up. Does this happen to you too? Are you sure it won't break? Is this normal? If so, how can I smile without this happening with my Meta Quest 3S?

Smiling won't damage anything as your face muscles will normally move it a bit and if it feels comfortable you are fine. Your nose won't touch the lenses but eyelashes can if you have long ones and are very close to the lenses. You can use the glasses spacer even if you don't wear glasses to give more space, if it feels too close. Sometimes movement can seem a lot when you smile if the headset is tight against your face so try to make it loose enough to feel comfortable and also tight enough to be stable. Comfort level can change so it's not unusual for it to feel more comfortable or less occasionally. If you're smiling when wearing it, that's a good sign as you must be enjoying it! 😁 The important thing is to keep as much weight off your face and towards the back of your head. If you do want something a bit more comfortable you could consider buying a halo style strap, not expensive and can distribute the weight very well with lots of adjustments possible to suit your individual needs. In the meantime don't worry and enjoy your Quest!

    Hey there sonoMrTonno,

We've just come across your post regarding your Meta Quest 3S headset lifting up when you are smiling. We want you to have the best possible experience in the world of VR and peace of mind, so we'd want your headset to have the best possible fit.

To ensure the best fit, please follow these steps:

    1. Start by loosening the back and top straps, then place the headset in a comfortable position against your face.
      - Make sure to move any hair that might get in front of your face or between the pad for best comfort and performance.

    2. Pull the straps over the back of your head and tighten the split straps, then adjust the top strap to take weight off your face and hold the headset comfortably in place.
    3. You can adjust the angle of the headset to improve comfort by holding the headset with both hands and tilting it up or down on the headset arms.
    4. Use the lens adjustment wheel on the bottom left side of the headset to change how close together the lenses are. Do this until the visuals in the headset are clear and visually comfortable to see.
    5. With the headset off, you can also use the depth adjustment buttons to adjust how far the lenses are from your face or eyeglasses.
    • Gently tilt the headset arms upward.
    • Locate the eye-relief buttons on next to the lenses inside the facial interface.
    • Hold down the button on one side while holding the edge of the interface and slide the interface forward or backward to adjust the distance.
    • Repeat for the other side to ensure the depth adjustment setting is the same on both sides.

Further information on how to adjust the fit and feel of your headset can be found by follow this link to our public article.

My problem is that I'm worried that I'm probably not wearing my headset correctly, even though I feel comfortable. (For example, I'm afraid that my nose is touching the lenses, or that the headset is too low even though I feel comfortable, or that it's too high even though I feel comfortable.) I've also noticed that maybe one day I feel comfortable with the headset and the next day I don't, but I'm sure it's just my silly concern. You know, I really care about my visor. Anyway, for now, I've found the right comfort level. If I have problems again, I'll follow your steps. Thank you so much for helping me! (:

  • Just one last question, but is it normal for my visor to lift slightly when I smile?

It is. As it sits on the muscles of your cheeks, it will lift when you smile. The lower the headset sits on your face the more it moves when smiling. If it bothers you a little try to move the headset a bit higher on your forehead. It's a bit of trial and error to find the exact sweet spot that's just right. 😊
