WIFI stops working under 50% battery

I am running a Quest Pro and this has been an issue for a long while.

At first, I would hit 30% on my headset's battery, then it would drop my WIFI connection. If I tried to reconnect, not a single SSID would show up on the list. Trying to turn the WIFI module off and on did nothing but freeze the toggle state to "off." Only when I let the headset charge past 30% and restart did it allow me to connect to WIFI.

I normally stick to 6 GHz, but this issue still occurs on 5 GHz.

Over time, the percentage that would trigger the WIFI to stop working gradually increased. Now it happens at 54% battery. And it is now often complemented by UI and passthrough freezes. Factory resetting has not helped.

I'm wondering if this is a symptom of terrible battery health and if anyone has recommendations for battery replacements? I normally keep powered, but I have noticed way faster depletion when I'm on battery.

Thanks.

  • Two observations. Yes, it looks like the battery is shot, they definitely don't last forever and each charging cycle reduces the lifetime, a bit of like each birthday reduces ours. 😂 There is a guy if you're in the US, Fix My Oculus is his YouTube channel and you can contact him through that. He has a first class reputation. However...... The other thing is, your wifi cutting out when the battery still has any life in it at all is very strange, it shouldn't happen so there is a chance that it's a software issue that is killing the wifi and draining the battery at the same time. Have you tried backing up your stuff and doing a full factory reset and used the pc online software tool to update it. It just might fix it. Good luck! 🍀Let's know how you get on. 🤞

I'm so used to resetting this thing that it's turned into clockwork for me. I reset basically reset every two weeks at this point haha. And yeah whenever there's an update I use the browser tool since the built-in updater always gets stuck somewhere in the process.

I think it could actually be the battery not supplying enough voltage to power everything. I ordered a replacement battery on Amazon so hopefully it's not crap. I'll make an update if it ended up being the battery.

Does your headset have "battery saver mode" enabled by any chance? SETTINGS->GENERAL->POWER->BATTERY SAVER

I used my battery saver on mine sometimes and I never lost wifi but it's a possibility steve_40  He also has an issue with battery drain, and if battery saver is switching on, you could be right. 👍

  • It sounds like your Quest Pro’s Wi-Fi issues are tied to battery degradation. As the battery health declines, the headset may throttle power to modules like Wi-Fi to conserve energy, causing freezes and disconnects. Unfortunately, there’s no user-replaceable battery for the Quest Pro, so the only options are to keep it plugged in during heavy use or contact Meta support for a battery replacement or repair service.
