You aren't able to create an account based on the information that you provided. Child's Account

Hi,

I believe it's possible to set up a child's meta account and link it to my account with parent supervision.

I've got so far as to enter his email address and name, but when I've entered his date of birth I'm getting the message:

"Something went wrong
You aren't able to create an account based on the information that you provided."

I'm guessing it's nothing to do with age, because even when I try a different birth year I'm getting the same message.

The only solution I've got at the moment is to let him play VR on my adult account - which doesn;t really seem ideal.

Thanks in advance

  • Hey everyone! I've just heard back from our internal team. It looks like in most cases, they've found that this type of issue is brought up when an invalid date of birth has been input. (I would assume one that is under 10 or over 12)

If you've already attempted a few times now, I would recommend waiting a few days before trying again with the right information. This way the app can get a fresh read of your information like new.

Along with this, some users have mentioned incognito mode to work for them. Please don't hesitate to test this out as well and let me know how that goes!

  • It's obvious from searching online that this issue has been happening for years and has never been resolved. They've released the newest version of the device, but did nothing about fixing the issues. It's not ok that the only response on here is the same generic copy and paste message, literally the whole point of a forum is for someone from Meta proving a proper solution so that all can see, opposed to asking them to send a PM that never gets a response anyway and its because theyre in mo way bothered about addressing it, so there is no solution.

Considering the hefty price for the device and that this is a multi billionaire company, the customer support is just absolute dog **bleep**e and they do not seem to give any disregards in fixing any of these problems.

I'm disgusted and quite pissed off! I'll be returning this to the store and getting a refund and will await for a rival company to release their alternative to this.

Get it together Meta, it's a disgrace!

There should not be this much effort and frustration from consumers over a stupid software glitch!

I fixed my issue by using a computer instead of using the app.  With me it was not an age issue as a made sure it was correct.

I already tried using the computer. I'll give it another try though. Thanks!

  • SOLUTION FOUND!

I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO CREATE A CHILD ACCOUNT BUT ONLY AFTER GOING INCOGNITO MODE IN CHROME. I could not create a child's account on the app or on Chrome in the normal mode. Give it a try guys. Hopefully it'll work for you too! By the way, Meta Support was absolutely useless in this matter. Happy New Year!

Everytime I try to set up my child's account it says it can't set it up with the information provided. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Try setting up the child account in incognito mode on your PC. Good luck.

That's awesome to hear! It's weird that you had to go into incognito mode for it to work though, so I'm definitely going to let our team know about that. For anyone still having the issue, I suggest what JOETALLICA mentioned if you've already attempted everything else. If incognito doesn't work for everyone, let me know and I'll pass it along too!

  • I just tried through incognito on the Brave browser and it worked. Thanks for the tip!

    THERE IS A SOLUTION, Y'ALL!!!!

I do not know where to post this so people can find it.  I have spent HOURS on chats and trying to create a child account.  I was doing so on my phone.   I logged in from my computer and created the child account with no problem.  I am pretty upset with the customer service.  it was so frustrating.

The only way I could create the account is if I was in invitation mode on the PC. It was very frustrating! And customer service was useless.

  • Hi, did you find a solution to this problem?   My son has been playing under my name since December because I keep getting this same error message.

  •  Its pretty crazy that this issue is this old and still hasnt been resolved. I have 3 kids, all within the age parameters. 10, 11, &12 and it only let me add ONE supervised account and won't let me add another. Best part is my wife tried to make her own account after I did (on our PC because the app is a dumpster fire) and it gives her the same error as well.. how absurd that my kids cant use their $500 christmas present just because meta cant figure their website **bleep** out
