Air Link cannot find PC

Imma keep this as short as possible.
I got a new 5GHz / 2.4GHz router so I could use Oculus Air Link without it stuttering every five seconds (my previous router only had 2.4GHz). When I try connect to my PC it just says "searching for device" but cannot find the PC. I have been troubleshooting and looking at forums and reddit posts for the past few days but none of the advices I have found so far have helped me. I found out that if both devices [the PC(in this case an old laptop I found) and the Quest 2] are connected to Wi-Fi, instead of the PC being connected to Ethernet, Air Link can find the Device and it works without problem. But my PC doesn't have a Wi-Fi adapter, and even if it did I do not want to use Wi-Fi on my PC for Air Link.
Here's a list of everything I have done to try and fix this issue:

  • Turn both devices off and on again
  • Turn Air Link on both devices off and on again
  • Uninstall the Quest app and install it again
  • Turn off my Firewall
  • Port forward the port 5669
  • Change some stuff in my registry
  • scream at my pc for 10 minutes straight
  • Disable DNS Proxy in my router's settings (Not exactly sure what it does but I thought maybe that could be the reason. It wasn't)
  • Turn off all anti-virus programs (A.K.A. Windows Defender)
  • Change from 80MHz to 20/40MHz in my router's settings (like I already said, the problem isn't the wi-fi but the ethernet)

I'm really desperate for help. My Oculus Link cable also started to act up yesterday and replacing it would cost too much for me right now so I *really* need to fix Air Link. Thanks in advance!

  • I had the same problem after getting a new router, and what solved it for me was changing the network connection from public to private (on Windows 11, its located on "Network & internet > Ethernet > Network profile type > Private".

I discovered this after installing Virtual Desktop, which alerted me that this was set to public, which could make it inaccessible, so thank you virtual desktop for solving my airlink problem lol

While it's working fine right now, I mostly prefer using the app Virtual Desktop to stream PCVR. That's mostly because of how often an update breaks Air Link in one way or another.

The fact that this thread was created in 2021 and this is still a problem is unacceptable.  Airlink has nothing but issues.  I'm literally afraid to reset my computer or reset my modem because every time i do it breaks it and i spend weeks trying to get it back again or meta pushes an update and breaks it also.  Using a cable is not a viable option seeing how my headset will die after 2.5 hours of play time and also makes my hot swap batteries useless.  It has nothing to do with my settings or internet as it worked just fine for weeks before breaking again and i even did a factory reset and tried using another computer.

Hey bro idk if you found a fix at all but I have (: what you want to do is just connect your usb to your pc to your headset like if you were charging it the go and connect it and go do the usb test then go into your headset and allow everything then after that reset your headset and go to pair with airlink and you should be able to connect lmk if anything not sure if working for others!

  • Had the same issue before. Solved by creating new user in Windows and playing all VR games from this user. All other suggestions did not work.

  • This was also driving me insane too! It was working in the morning then had an update which then stopped it from working. Did everything from reseting/uninstall ect. Then I had to check the Internet profile and saw that it was on public so changed it to private and it works!? I'm using ethenet/window 10. Why does gadget have to be so complicated.

  • Hi if anyone is still having this problem a fix that worked for me was turning off my antivirus worked no problem after that.
