Casting issue on my Quest 2

I have just purchased a oculus quest 2 and am trying to cast to my LG smart TV.. It have screen share miracast but the oculus can't find the TV.. Help!!

  • Hi Butler2022, we see you're having an issue casting your Quest 2 to your TV. We know how fun it is to share these VR experiences with those around you, so we want to do everything we can to help clear this up.

To begin, you want to make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Although you have a smart TV, TVs with built-in Chromecast or other smart functionality may be supported, but compatibility cannot be guaranteed with all models. Hey Thor, considering you haven't provided us any information on if your TV is supported to cast your Quest headset, you should reconsider your tone on the forums. As the Support handled said previously, not all TVs with built in casing are supported with Quest headsets. Also, only Chromecast devices are currently supported with Quest headsets. You can check the full list of requirements and known issues when casting over here.

        Thanks.

  • I had the same issue. If you happened to have an Amazon Firestick, it works great on an app called AirScreen.

The instructions are vague. When I opened up my occulus there was nowhere that said or had the symbol for casting.

Yet my phone said it was connected and there was a red light on my occulus view.

Then I found that individual apps have a casting symbol and so I tried that and it said I was casting... but my phone said it was "connecting".

I managed once to get my phone connected and casting... without doing anything on my Occulus! Or anything within any of the apps...To record I had to press a red button on the phone app. Not easy when you have the headset on and the controllers in your hand!

But that has only happened once. And all other times despite my phone saying it was connected, it would not start to "cast"

I would like to cast to my computer... but despite using Chrome, I can find nowhere within this website where it can receive the cast. In fact one can only find out instructions to casting and a link by using the search button. The link however merely gives instructions... which do not tell you where this "cast" will appear or even indicate whether it is connected or not.

Why not make it easy and have a link to a set up page? And a message that tells you that it is linked or not?

My WFI connection is at the top end of the household speed range so why is this not functioning?

Hey there. Thank you for notifying us of this issue! We know casting on Quest 2 can be a little confusing at times. We love to help out and clarify a few things. Casting only works with devices that are compatible with our headset.

Try the steps in this article. This may result in the device casting to your computer. Keep in mind that some devices are not compatible, and we cannot guarantee compatibility. Please reach out if you have any questions.

I am having major issues. I have been since I got my oculus for Christmas 2021. I put it away because I was so frustrated. I have finally decided to try and fix the issue. I cant cast from my oculus at all. I have followed all troubleshooting steps provided. I have sent a PM to Oculus Support today just waiting to hear back so my family can enjoy this.....

Hey LWGray! Whether you're an entertainer or just wanting to share the experience with people around you, casting in general is just a great way to connect, so we'd love to help out with taking a look! We're always looking for ways to improve the features and ease-of-use for our players, so we appreciate the feedback about your casting experience!

If you haven't done so already, we recommend taking a look at our support page for more detailed instructions for how to cast your device! If you're having trouble trying to find out where to cast your device through our website, you can login using this link, and follow the provided instructions. The cast will then appear on the browser, giving you the option to full screen, if you wanted.

If you're having trouble connecting your phone to your headset to start casting, we recommend attempting to clear your Bluetooth cache, then restart both devices. Let us know if that help at all or not, and we'll see what else we can do!

Hey LWGray, just checking back in to see if you were able to cast successfully or not! If not, we'd love to hear how the info we gave in our last reply worked for you, so that we can see what else we can try!

Just got our Quest 2 for Christmas.
        having casting issues.
I can cast via the meta app to my phone and screen mirror to tv no problem.
I bought a Chromecast specifically to cast to my tv but I cannot get my tv to consistently show up from the headset to cast. If it does it comes up an error message when you try to cast. Itโ€™s worked maybe twice casting via chrome cast so it can work but 8 times out of 10 the tv isnโ€™t there to cast to. Or it fails.

looking at some videos it says you can also select the tv via the app on your phone but I donโ€™t have a drop down menu to choose on my phone. It only casts to my phone.

please help. Frustrated isnโ€™t the word.

Hey there jamejam.2023, welcome to the Community Forums!

I'm not understanding what's being attempted that may cause the error you're receiving, sorry about that. Would you happen to have a screenshot of the error message? So I can better understand the issue, you're attempting to stream to a ChromeCast device, correct?

  • Having difficulty getting casting to work.   Would like to cast to TV.

Not working with PC and https://www.oculus.com/casting portal, with this combo, I never see my PC (or the portal) as a selection in the casting menu.  If I select "computer" initially I get a red check in the headset display, then it disappears, then I get an error message that says the cast/livestream has been cancelled (or terminated).  Message flashes up in the headset display twice then disappears, not able to find the error message afterwords.  After that, if I retry, I never get a red check, just a connecting message but no connection.

I've also tried connecting to my Firestick HD with the Air Screen app emulating a Chromecast device.  I can see the Chromecast device in the casting selection menu in the headset.  However, when I select it, nothing happens, casting never starts.

I am able to cast to my Ipad running the Oculus app.  However, it takes several attempts.  It never shows up in the casting selection menu in the headset.  Once it starts it seems to work.

Hey there, hi2meb! We hate to hear that you are having trouble casting from your headset. We know how important it is to be able to share your VR experience with others, and we would be happy to help you with what you are facing!

If you haven't already, we recommend trying to restart your headset. Hold the power button down for about 10 seconds, and then turn the headset back on after waiting for about 30 seconds.

If you have already done this, we also recommend trying to restart your Wi-Fi router and using a different Wi-Fi connection for both your headset and the device you are casting to. For more information about casting, please follow this link.

Please let us know if the troubleshooting is able to assist you with casting from your device. If you are still having trouble, we would be happy to continue looking into this issue further!

Thank you for your concern and for the troubleshooting suggestions.  I've seen these in multiple places here and in other posts.  Unfortunately, these basic troubleshooting steps have not resolved my issue.

Hey there, hi2meb! Thank you for letting us know about the troubleshooting. We would like to ask for some additional information so we can better understand this issue.

        • Could you please clarify with us if the TV you are using has Chromecast enabled?
        • Could you also please check to make sure that your mobile app is up-to-date, as well as let us know what version your headset is on?

Please provide as much information as you can about what you are experiencing. Once we have more details, we will be able to see how best to assist you!
