Connecting Issues (Windows Error 10)

My Meta Quest 3 is no longer recognized properly by Windows 11.

In Device Manager, it shows up as “Reality Labs xSRP Interface” with Error Code 10.

It used to work perfectly and I can’t tell what happened.

Setup:

  • Motherboard: MSI Z490-A PRO
  • GEFORCE RTX 3070
  • CPU: Intel
  • USB-C: Onboard port (no PCIe USB cards connected)
  • Cable: Official Meta Link Cable (certified 5 Gbps)
  • Other devices (iPhone, SSDs, controllers) work fine on all USB ports

What I’ve already tried:

Hardware / Ports

  • Removed all PCIe cards (only GPU installed)
  • Tested all USB ports (rear USB-C, USB-A, front headers)
  • Tested with a powered USB-C hub → same issue
  • Tested multiple 3.2 and 3.0 cables, including the official Meta Link cable
  • Tested the Quest 3 on another PC → works perfectly there

Software / Drivers

  • Fully uninstalled Meta Link / Oculus software
  • Manually deleted all leftover folders:  C:\Program Files\Oculus
    C:\ProgramData\Oculus
    C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Oculus
    C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Roaming\Oculus

  • Removed and reinstalled all Intel USB 3.x controllers

  • Reinstalled latest chipset, USB drivers, and BIOS (even tried older BIOS)

  • Removed Windows Mixed Reality completely (including registry and Appx packages)

  • Factory reset the Quest 3

  • Deleted all Mixed Reality-related registry entries under Enum\USB

Current behavior:

  • When connecting the headset, “Oculus Virtual Audio Device” installs successfully
→ So USB connection and power are working.
  • Only the xSRP Interface driver fails to start with Error Code 10.
  • Same behavior on all USB-A and USB-C ports.
  • No hardware issue with the Quest (works fine on another PC).

has anyone experienced the same issue? I really need to use cable Link, WiFi’s just too weak and slow.

edit: this is Microsoft’s Solution for the Error 10

“Code 10 "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Full Error Message

"This device cannot start. Try upgrading the device drivers for this device. (Code 10)"

Cause

Typically, the device's hardware key contains a "FailReasonString" value, and the value string is displays an error message defined by the hardware manufacturer. If the hardware key does not contain a “FailReasonString” value the message above is displayed.

Recommended resolutions

Update the driver

In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.

Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver.  If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s website.”

as far as I know , there are no publicly available drivers for the quest 3
