Controller making click sound on thumb stick.

Hey everyone — wondering if anyone else has run into this.

So I’ve noticed that every time I move the right stick on my Meta Quest controller, there’s this audible clicking sound. Not the button press — I mean just from moving the stick around, like there’s a tiny internal snap or tap.

🟢 The left stick is totally silent and smooth.

:red_circle: The right stick makes this click/pop sound every time I move it, even just slightly.

I’ve read some people say it’s normal, part of the way the spring mechanism is built…

Others are saying it could be a defect, especially if the left stick isn’t doing the same thing.

It’s not affecting gameplay yet, but it’s starting to get into my head — and I don’t want this to turn into stick drift or wear down faster.

Just trying to figure out:

  • Is this normal for the right controller?
  • Or should I request a replacement or warranty check before it gets worse?

Appreciate any help or similar experiences. 🙏my father got me this for my birthday last week and I want to protect it at all costs

PhoenixGod00  the clicking is possibly the capacitive touch spring on the joystick under the joystick topper. It really shouldn't be making a noise like that when it's brand new and it's unlikely to get any better. Return it to the store it was purchased and get a replacement.

      Hi Oculusness,

so my father bought it on Amazon for me from New York for my birthday. So it would have to be sent from my end. When I do this, can I just go ahead and send them both back? My system works great otherwise and I love it. I just want two brand new controllers with not that issue in either please? This is kind of ridiculous. And my father got me this for my birthday last week and it’s sentimental. Also do I have to pay for shipping? I don’t have a lot of money right now.

PhoenixGod00  I'm not sure what amazon's policy is, but you'd better contact them first and request a return. You'll have to return the complete set, headset and controllers for a refund and then purchase a new one without the clicking. Your father may have to do this as he was the original purchaser.

  • Sounds like it just needs a clean get wd40 suitable for electronics type though as regular wd40 will cause damage. Move the joystick all the way to the right spray on the base of the stick then move the stick around repeat if needed. Had same problem this solved for me hope it works for you!.

      Hi RandomGuy1978 🙂

Good suggestion if you've been using the controllers for a while.

      But a brand-new controller shouldn't need WD40. 😉

I think returning the headset is the better option in this case.
