D-Link Air Bridge is no longer to work after upgrading Windows 11 24H2

Hi,

I need help for D-Link air bridge to work with Windows 11 24H2.

I remembered that it worked with 23H2 before upgraded 24H2, and I could not find the D-Link air bridge device in the network device list.  So I performed to the factory reset to my D-Link Air bridge.

After the factory reset and tried to add the bridge back and I got the initialization error with the following screenshots:

I checked my device manager and I found:

Two adaptors were created and I assumed that it should be one.  And, checked my network devices:

The Microsoft network device was not created for the D-Link air bridge.

I have googled D-Link air bridge related issues, and tried to unplugged/plugged bridge, and no help at all.  I even uninstalled/installed Meta Quest link app and no help.  I also even reinstalled Windows 11, no help[ neither.

Any suggestion?

Thanks.

  • Same here,
i didn't manage to revive the Air Bridge, no matter what i tried. Reinstalling the Oculus sw, removing/updating/reinstalling Air Bridge driver, nothing helped.
i rolled back the Windows to 23H2 version and that fixed the issue instantly.
Since i updated from that version, in Settings/System/Recovery/Go back was an option.

  • Thanks for sharing.

My 24H2 can't go back 23H2 since there is no restore point for 23H2.

Beside this, do all 23H2 users have to stuck the version forever?  I guess that Meta needs to provide the workaround solution for the long run.

Thank you for the fast respone and for me new idea.

Ive never heard about it. I only knew elaborate "2nd Router" Systems.

I will test it. Some videos seems told it seems to be a good work around. The "Steam Link" in combination could be the better solution against the D-Link.

Hi, Ive tested it and its good.

The setup is fast and not hard to understand. They have a lot of descriptions on the offical Website.
I can just recommend it. It works at some games better than the D-Link.

The games so far I have testetd:

Steam Link, installed on the Quest 3:

      - The Light Brigade (Steam Link)

Sometimes it had short framerate drops with bad pixel screen, but its just for a moment and very rare. Maybe when someone is downloading at home.

      - Blade & Socery (Steam Link)

I think not as good as the D-Link, but smooth and no problems. Maybe the picture is not sharp as the D-Link. Maybe I can do something in the settings but it was completly nice.

      - Grimlord (Steam Link)

      - Tactical Assault VR (Steam Link)

      Meta Quest Link:

      - Asgards Wrath (Meta Quest Link)

Heres interesting that the game was unplayabe for me with the D-Link, it was just stuttering even on low settings (at this time I had an RTX 3070 Ti), but with the Puppies it was smooth on Epic settings (Now it was an RTX 4070 Ti).

After all I think its an realy good addition for the Quest. The Price is more than fair and it works very well. I recommend it. I bought it over Amazon and after 2 Days its arrived.

Thank you for the tip "chilly.birdy"

      My PC specs:

      RTX 4070 Ti
      Intel Core 7 - Gen 13

      64 GB Ram

SSD Samsung EVO for my Games

Ive reinstalled all without compatibility mode and it doesnt work. This "Puppies" is plug and play nd great.

I wont try again to kill my lifetime with metas system, because I payed a lot of money for an Airbridge Device that was advertised as "the one and only best solution" and 80% of the time it doesnt work until its patched and for the rest of the 20% I needed to work around few days to find a solution. This is NOT user friendly. Than a circus visit and spending the rest money to the animals food has more use and they are thankfully for the money.

The Meta Quest VR devices are great but its like "Ill take your money and dont care". Yes they are working out good step by step solutions for troubleshoots but the best solution for different problems is still not usefull...

The support is REALY bad, I mailed for Days with Meta and the only way is to give you a new supporter who aks the same question and even if you tell them what you already done, they just dont read...

At the end the Meta support adviced me to D-Link for software problems and D-Link told me, that only Meta handles the software... Than I asked D-Link to exchange my Device and after 2 weeks Ive got the new one and it was functioning... But why Meta didnt get a clue that the device was broken? The orderd from me multiple Data where they could read this out...

Now the device works on Windows 10 from an Laptop but my PC with much better specs and Windwos 11 cant use it...

Nice, than I read that D-Link isnt supporting the device anymore and I think thats the prblem why W11 and the Airbridge arent friends anymore, but im not a profession its just my point of view...

Tested with "Puppies" and it works great.

The setup is required few steps for the device and windows (both setups are within the PrismXR app).

At least, "Puppies" and installation works with 11 24H2.

I am not sure for 8 because I do not have 8.  10 should work for sure.

If the same link software works with windows 10 but not 11 then it's more likely to be a M$ issue. Maybe the D-Link driver needs registering manually in win 11 to get it working. I wish I had a D-link just for the fun of troubleshooting.

I agree, MS changed something that makes it a lot more secure yet kills some other features used by the AR Bridge.
It works with Win 11 but only with the 23H2 version, 24H2 kills it. Bounced off D-Link as well as Meta, and I don't think the mighty MS will move a finger to fix this. Its a write off...

  • Absolutely, 2 months after it's still prevents the dongle to work.
We need at least an official statement, cause it's W11 compatible on the box, but now it's becoming e-waste since 24H2 will become more and more mandatory.

  • Be honest, even thought D-Link Air bridge works with Win 10 or Win 11 23H2 (below), but it does not works sometimes and I have to disable D-Link network device under "Network Connections" and enable it in order to have the Windows network virtual device to be created.  It is inconvenience.

I will say to find other solutions are the best way to solve the issue.

  • Found an alternative to Puppis (and AirBridge): MSI AXE5400 WiFi USB 6E

But also managed the Air Bridge to work as USB WiFi adapter, creating a WiFi hotspot on the Windows. So AirBridge still works but not through the Meta Quest link app but as a Win 11 WiFi hotspot.

Speed is low though, while the MSI works with 2401 Mb/s, the AirBridge is only 300Mb/s. Yet i couldn't force the 5GHz mode on AB. Maybe it works, maybe not, gave up on it as MSI makes PC VR games smooth, internet bridging from the PC through LAN is trouble free.
