Laggy gameplay when using Link

This is an issue that has started right after Meta fixed the link connection issue. I have a GTX 1650, which I know is not officially supported for VR, but it has worked for me up until this point.

Previously, the game, (Beat Saber) would only lag at times, and it would occur in lagspikes. I would be really mad when one of these lagspikes happened, but at least I would be able to play normally otherwise. Now, after the update, the game is completely unplayable. I’ve had to turn down quality considerably, but the lagging still persists.

So, I’m wondering, is anyone else experiencing this issue? And if so, is there some sort of fix for this? Even before all this started I was planning on getting a new graphics card, most likely an RTX 5060. But I will have to get a new power supply as well, which will for sure be expensive.

I’m willing to try (almost) anything to fix this. If you can offer help in any way, please message me.

You just need to lower the Encode Bitrate in the Link dashboard settings until you get smooth performance. It's the first icon on the left of the dash. Or lower it using OculusDebugTool if you previously used that tool. Also, lowering the Render Resolution in the Link PC app device settings can also help reduce stutters. Also, I recommend leaving the refresh rate at 72 Hz.

Power supplies are quite cheap these days compared to what I paid several years ago. The GPU is what will kill your budget. And make sure it will fit in your box, those uber GPUs are huge. My 3080 takes up two slots and I had to rearrange all my hardware to get it to fit in the case. And it only just fit. I don't have water cooling on my GPU (CPU only), but I would recommend it. On hot days my GPU sometimes overheats when playing very demanding VR games for long periods.

Sorry for late reply. I just finished playing, and there wasn’t really any lag at all. Although, the only thing that I did was lower resolution. I went into OculusDebugTool, found Encode Bitrate, but it was at zero? I did search around a bit and found zero was the default, but I don’t really understand how that works. I found a video that showed how to lower lag inside link, and all he did was set it to zero, which mine already was at. Also Dynamic Bitrate was set to true, so it should adjust to my PC’s requirements. So I’m a bit confused still, and I’m pretty sure that the lag goes up and down, some days it’ll be completely unplayable other days, like today, it’ll be (almost) perfectly fine.

Zero leaves the bitrate at default, which is 200 Mbps. I'm not sure if that applies to cable Link or just AirLink, though. Users using cable Link like to increase it up to about 940 Mbps, but currently it needs to be reduced to about 450 Mbps since about 2 months ago. Meta is supposedly working on a fix. AirLink works quite well at the default setting on 5Ghz wifi, but after a certain Windows Security update I had to reduce the bitrate to about 75 Mbps. Meta updated Link a few days ago and now I can use default bitrate again without problems. Btw, try changing "Link sharpening" to "quality" in the debug tool. I find it improves the graphics quite a bit and doesn't seem to have any hit on performance.
