Link cable not detecting

i got a quest 2 for Christmas, along with a third party link cable with a usb 2 on one end along with a usb 3 on the other. when i go to use the oculus pc app to connect my quest 2, it wont detect a connection. on the actual quest, it brings up a prompt to share data with the device, but no matter if i choose allow or deny nothing changes. help would be greatly appreciated, and i hope all of you had a good Christmas

Is it showing up as a device under my computer when you open up files?

  • How long is the cable and is it passive or active.? Some of the cheaper USB cables are a bit hit and miss esp the ones over 3m. My 5m one used to work fine but now is dodgy.   Make sure you are plugging into usb3 port on your pc (both ends are usb3 it is just they are different form factors).  And try different ports if one is not working.

Also (not sure on this) do you have to turn off air link for the wired link to work or is it automatic?

Will it not work in a USB 2.0 port on computer?

It's supposed to be able to work over USB 2.0, but you might get reduced performance or image quality. Never tried it myself.

  • In the third screenshot, what happens when you click Continue? The Oculus software won't start the connection until you click Continue.

Some general troubleshooting steps you can try:
    - Restart the headset (long press power button, select Restart), then the PC. Also try reversing the order of restarts.
    - Unplug and replug the cable from the back of the PC, not from the front of the headset (sounds weird but on my system it matters which end of the cable you re-plug).
    - Try a different USB port
    - Try a different USB cable. I can confirm this cable from Anker works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZIPYPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  • I was able to get it to work by going into dev settings and activating usb connection dialog and selecting allow.

Had a duh moment myself.. I'm so used to plugging my charging cable into my battery that I was trying to connect via the same port BUT need to unplug the battery pack and plug the link cable directly into the headset!

Hope this helps out someone else 🙂
