Liquid and Debris in charging port

I use 18m cable to charge and play games with my Quest 3s. When I play quest standalone games everything is fine. One I play with steam link I get the message that there is liquid or debris. Seem like a scam to me. I contacted support 3-4  times, was asked for the same information over and over and they just closed the ticket on me every time. Probably the worst customer support that I have every seen. I don't see why it works for weeks but when I try to use steam link it doesn't.

Steam Link is not Meta's software. You need to contact Valve about the problem. Does the cable work with Meta Quest Link? If the physical cable or socket is damaged, then I would not expect Quest Link to work either.

Hey there KaiUR. We've seen you're having some issues with PCVR, specifically Steam Link, and wanted to try and lend a hand, especially since you've already had to reach out a couple of times.

Our first suggestion would be making sure your headset and cable work with regular Meta Quest Link. It's worth noting that there are some pretty strict requirements for PCVR in general, which you can find right here, and issues with not meeting them can manifest as a variety of different error messages.

You've also mentioned that it's a decent length of cable (18 meters, wow!). If you use the cable that your Quest 3S came with, just for some troubleshooting, do you get the same error message?

It's just a few things to look at first, but you'd be surprised how much we can learn from that. We'd really like to get this sorted out for you!

Hope to hear back from you soon!

  • this is a rediculous problem. i regret buying my quest headset. I use it mostly for PCVR through oculus app. i sim race and this alert pops up and completly disables the screen and my view. ive had crashed is league level races due to this. this alert should not disable to entire VR session. I am going to make a youtube video reviewing the quest3, this will def be the main topic of the video. this issue has been going on for years now?? this is a simple thing to fix. at least allow users to supress the warning message and stop the PCVR session from locking the screen

  • Exactly the same problem.  In sim racing it ruins hours worth of racing, even though there's definitely no debris or water in the charging port.  Only ever happens when the headset is playing PCVR.

The least they could do is have the popup disappear after unplugging the cable (without having to click OK), or ideally, just have the Operating system disable charging whilst still powering the headset.

I'm really starting to think this is a design flaw in the hardware which doesn't allow the unit to operate on power without charging, so as a way to prevent the battery overheating, they instead give a fake message about debris/water.

I have tried multiple different cables now and it is always the same. I don't unplug the cable at all for weeks and I can play any VR game I want and I never get a warning. If I use the same setup, without plugging into a PC, just the charger and I launch steam VR I get random liquid/debris messages. If I plug in the cable to the PC and launch steam VR I get the same messages. If I use Oculus link I also get a warning. The warning makes the headset unusable for any PC VR use, If that is what you want a quest 3s for don`t buy it. I also really regret getting this headset. I have contacted support 4 times answering all of their questions and then they just close the ticket saying it was resolved. There is a serious software flaw in the headset that makes any use of a link cable impossible. Also meta saying that only using their official things is unreasonable. I should be able to use my things what ever way I like. This issue with the charging port is going on for months now. You would be better off not to buy any meta products at all, it is just a waste of money and time.

Also I made a mistake n my previous post. I meant 18 feet, not meters.
