Meta Horizon closes instead of casting

My Oculus (Meta Quest) is connected via Bluetooth to the Ipad. Meta Horizon recognises that they are connected. When I press Cast there is the screen for a couple of seconds saying that it is searching for headset, but then Meta Horizon suddenly closes. I suppose it is a simple software crash.

I'm not able to report the issue because Meta doesn’t recognise that I have a device connected to my account. However, when I try to connect the device to my account it says that it is already connected. They also don’t want to recognise the serial number.
I got the Oculus five years ago before Meta was involved, and it has been with me all the time, so clearly Meta is wrong about this.
When I search for the issue, there seems to be lots of people having similar problems. Asking for factory reset is not acceptable solution for something that should very simple to solve.
I realise it’s high time to upgrade my VR googles. I can get Meta Quest 3 to a much lower cost than the Oculus five years ago. But with this experience it is out of the question to stay with Meta.

Quick, friendly and helpful reply. That is impressive for a forum. I’ll check it out if they can help with my case.

  • Sorry for reviving a slightly older comment, but I have the exact same bug, but with the Quest 2. I'm assuming it's an issue with the App and not the headset.

    Have you found a solution?

      Hey AntiochusIV & Pacmanvice

Thanks for reaching out about the issue you're having with casting to your iPad. What we've taken from this post is that when you connect your device to the Meta Horizons app and select cast, it crashes and looks like a software problem. There is a couple of things you can try to fix this yourselves, please see below:

If using the app follow these steps:

      • Try log out and log back in again.
      • Delete the app and reinstall to ensure you're on the latest version. (or check for software updates)
      • Ensure your device is compatible: IOS 15.1 or later / Android 5.0 or later.

      Additional notes:

      • Your phone must be connected to Wi-Fi and have Bluetooth turned on to use the Meta Horizon mobile app to set up your Meta Quest.
      • If you install the Meta Horizon mobile app on an unsupported device, you may experience issues setting up your headset.
      • After completing the initial activation of your headset using the Meta Horizon mobile app, you'll be able to finish setting up your headset in VR.

We hope this helps. If you're still having any issues with casting please let us know and we'll provide further troubleshooting steps!

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Did anyone solve this. I can not cast from my quest 1. I get the same issue on meta horizon app on iPad and android phone. The headset is connected and when I click cast from within the headset, the app responds but gets stuck in the casting screen that says “Keep the headset on and connected to the internet “ but it never progresses to actually cast.

Hi MarkVDB and thanks for contacting us.

We understand you've having trouble casting from your Quest 1 and there are a few troubleshooting steps we'd like to recommend.

If you are unable to cast to your mobile phone or tablet:

      • Log in to your Meta account and to the Meta Horizon mobile app on the mobile device that you want to cast to. Make sure that you are logged in to the same account as on your Quest device.
      • Confirm that your headset and the device that you're casting to are on the same Wi-Fi network.
      • If you are still unable to cast, restart your headset, phone and the device that you're casting to.
      • Check for software updates on your devices.
      • If you still can't cast, restart your Wi-Fi router.

If you are unable to cast to a web browser:

Make sure that you're logged in with the same account on your browser. You can log in at oculus.com/casting.
