Meta Horizon mobile app wont recognize Quest Pro

got the headset mailed straight from meta. I did the initial set up as instructed and when i restarted it: the background reset to the new home environment. factory resetting it does nothing but reset the background back to the psuedo-foggy dance studio. the main issue seems to be that the latest headset update is invisible to the phone app. any ideas?
