Meta Quest Link App Not working/ Opening

For the past few months, I have had issues with the Meta Quest Link software, Cable link, and Air link and have found no solution to my issue on any forums or help posts.

When I open the software on my laptop (Asus ROG Zephyrus 16 2024), I see the Meta logo and a loading wheel. 9/10 times, the software won't go any further and will just sit on this screen. To close it, I have to end the task in the task manager.  If it does open, I will go into my headset, enable the air link, select my laptop, the quest link starts, and then immediately crashes and says there is a connection issue to ensure my laptop is turned on and connected to the network. After that, my laptop will show in the in-headset menu, but I cannot select it and get the same connection error message without even attempting to open it.

So far, I have tried the following:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Quest link software (about seven times now)
  • Restarting the app in Beta settings (which rarely works)

I am an XR designer, mainly using Unity, so I need Quest Link to test my work without building it on the headset, which takes ages, depending on the project size. This issue is highly irritating, especially when I see my colleagues using it with no issues.

The other problem I get (if the software decides to open) is that my laptop is apparently below the minimum specs for running the Quest link, which I can assure you it is not. It has an i9 CPU and 4070 GPU with 32GB RAM.

We look forward to hearing from you!

  • It has previously worked before, but a while ago now, I have been building projects to test them for months and have just got around to trying to sort the issue.

No, it was happening before, and then one of the first things I did to see if I could solve the issue was to update the headset, windows, and any drivers, but I had no luck.

Hi again! We just wanted to do a quick follow-up to see if you still needed any assistance?

Hope to hear from you soon.

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

As the Link Software was successfully running for you at one point in time, we would recommend a more comprehensive uninstall of the software known as a 'Manual Uninstall'. The steps for completing this are outlined below:

    • Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
    • Disconnect your computer from the internet
    • Backup any necessary content - You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
    • Reboot into Safe Mode - You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
    • Uninstall the Link PC VR app using the Control Panel - You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
    • Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder - C:\Program Files
    • Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:

    C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache

Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.

    • Restart your computer in normal mode
    • Reconnect your computer to the internet
    • Install the Link PC VR app again using the setup tool from our website here
    • Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Let us know if this solves your issue or if you need any further assistance!

Tried all the above and nothing worked. If I create another local user on my desktop then I can create a new project with no issues but I’m unable to open the existing project for some reason
