New Meta Quest 3 freezes and glitches after a few seconds when using Meta Link

  1. Version number of software: I'm using the latest version of Meta Quest Link as of today (19th May 2025). I can't find the version number. Right-click on the "OculusClient.exe" file shows "0.1.0", which seems wrong.
  2. The product you’re using: Quest Link
  3. If this is related to standalone or Quest Link: Link
  4. Description of the issue: Attempting to load Quest Link, Steam VR in Quest Link or Elite Dangerous in Quest Link causes the display to freeze and glitch at the edges. The issue is sometimes delayed by a few minutes, but once it has occurred it does not seem to be recoverable without a reboot of the headset. This is a brand new device (arrived today) and I'm using the official £90 cable. Very disappointed.
  5. Screenshots that might apply
The following photo was taken through the right-hand lens after it started glitching within Quest Link itself (before loading another app).

  6. Any additional information: I haven't seen the headset glitch when using it as a standalone device, so I believe this is an issue with Quest Link specifically. Any help would be welcome.

  • I should probably add, I have:

    * Tried restarting the app, the headset and the PC.

    * Repaired the app.

    * Validated files for SteamVR.

    * Tried running Elite Dangerous directly from Steam, but this still requires the Quest Link to be active.

    * Tried making both SteamVR and Oculus Link the "default app" for VR.

  • There really isn't a fix yet, but the workaround is to use a USB-C to USB-A cable (if you have a powered usb hub you can charge the headset regularly while connected). Other than that, many of us have similar or the exact same issue since the update to v76.

Autodelaying the OVRservice didn't work for me, flipping the official cable link didn't resolve it, stopping and restarting the service didn't work, and doing a clean reinstall didn't fix it.

Updated BIOs, chipset, ME, updated GPU drivers, unchecked all power management USB thing and whatnot...

The USB-C to USB-A cable works for me and is stable.

I'm perplexed because I already use USB-C to USB-A and have this same bug. My workaround is to use USB-C to USB-C but it's 2.0 so there's some pixelation. It's completely stable, otherwise.

      Also, I'm on version 79.

        Hey CeeJay726,

Thank you guys for bringing this issue to our attention!

We'd kindly ask you (and anyone still experiencing this issue) to submit a bug report so that our software engineers can get on the case ASAP!

You can find out how to submit a bug report here.

We hope this issue is resolved soon and you're back in the glitch-free PCVR Metaverse in no time!

  • Hey Zexeonyo  and Choleni  - thank you for the replies. This is somewhat reassuring, but I am also concerned that this could end up masking a problem. I just bought the new headset. If I return it within 14 days, I should get a full refund, whereas if I hold out for the chance this will be fixed later, I might find that I can't get a refund and the issue isn't fixed!

I bought this headset mainly to play PC games with, so I am gutted that it doesn't work for that purpose.

    Before I return, I will try a USB-C to USB-A high speed / 3.2 cable.

  • Cholenithank you!

The wired linked option didn't work (as I said above).

Air Link didn't work (I got the same issue), but using the Steam Link app worked. I was able to play Elite Dangerous over Steam Link without any noticeable issues.

Which makes me wonder if my original issue is related to the interaction between SteamVR and Meta Quest Link.

I will still try to get the Link working, but this was really helpful info, thanks.

      Glad it works.

As I said... some users are having issues with this version of the Link app. Hopefully, this will be resolved with an update or a newer version.

At least now you know your Quest isn't broken.🙂

  • Shame I spent £90 on a cable though, if the cable isn't even necessary...!

NINETY QUID ... FOR ONE CABLE ...! WHAT?!

  • Do I understand correctly that v78 not resolved this issue?

I haven`t been playing during last 2 month, and now I found that link don`t work for me. Meta quest limk show me that my cable work on usb 2.0, although I know that is not.

But okay even if I`m wrong in this case, 2 month ago it works in the same configuration, with the same cable and the same connector. What happened?

I can confirm that as of now, I'm still having the issue. Frustrating, as right now my headset is a $500 paperweight. I'm praying that they get this fixed soon because JESUS

        Hi @Serenity.Solstice

We never like to hear our users are having issues, could you give us a bit more information on what it is that's happening?

Is your headset working for anything else or is this just happening on specific apps/games?

Our support team is here to help 24/7. We will work with you to get you back up and running in The Metaverse!

Just want to add, I’ve been having the same issue. I hadn’t played in over a year and now that I’m trying to hop back in I was worried the headset was dead. This seems like a pretty important issue to fix, I sure hope it happens soon.  Doesn’t do it when I’m on Airlink but the quality is very poor despite a wired connection so sadly SteamVR and Cable Link is how I would like to play if it would work for longer than 15 minutes at a time without a hard reboot to fix this freezing.

      Hi there JetEhx,

Thanks for joining the conversation, so that we can get you back into the game lets try out some troubleshooting.

It may be useful to manually uninstall and reinstall the Meta Quest Link app, this is to make sure all the files are fully removed before reinstalling.

Here is how to perform a manual uninstall:

      1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
      2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
      3. Backup any content.
        • Learn how to back up your content in our Help Center.
      4. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
        • Learn how on this page.
      5. Uninstall the Meta Quest Link app using the Control Panel.
        • Learn how on this page.
      6. Delete all Oculus folders from the folder called C:\Program Files.

      1. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
        • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
        • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
        • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
        • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
        • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
        • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
          1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
          2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
          3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
          4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
      2. Restart your computer in normal mode.
      3. Reconnect your computer to the internet.
      4. Install the Meta Quest Link app again using the setup tool from our website
      5. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

this issue us users have been having with the quest 3 randomly crashing and then glitching out half of one eye, and being shaky has been going on for over a year.  when are you going to actually do something?  i have been watching the boards on this issue for a long time and when anyone files a complaint, you all act like this is your first time hearing of it.  is this an AI run board?  all i see are the same generic leg work instructions you want all of us to do without any resolution.  I feel like the only point of this forum is just to quiet the masses.  is that what this board is for?  tell you what.  if a real person wants to actually work with a real person to resolve this issue beyond trying a bunch of generic steps that are used for every generic issue, you have my account info and therefore my email.  you can email me directly and i will give you my phone number.  we can have an actual conversation and maybe get some headway on a solution.  otherwise i am just going to toss your device and go to a competitor that takes better care of their customers.

  • this started happening to me about a week ago. games are unplayable for me now as I crash out after a few minutes of playing. the only way to get back is to disconnect and reconnect the link cable. please fix meta

I've done that earlier today. Hard to take a screenshot but the OP did it best with their image.

I did come across a reddit post where a user suggested killing all the OVR tasks in task manager on bootup, before manually launching quest link. I tried this and tested playing a game without crashing, so that might be a temp fix for now.

I had exactly this same problem (as in the OP's screenshot) happen twice while using AirLink on my Quest 3. All I had to do to fix it was to: (a) fully power the headset off and on, and (b), reboot my PC.
