No audio on Quest 2 via link cable

Just as the title says, I'm not getting any audio through my headset while using a link cable for the oculus home-- no desktop audio in oculus home, no game audio when in a game, despite video working flawlessly. Issue persists with games both from oculus library and steamvr library. Audio works perfectly with steam link. 

Here is everything I've tried so far to fix it: 
enabled Oculus Virtual Audio Device in device manager and audio settings,
tried every audio device in windows settings,
tried every combo of audio settings on the oculus pc app,
reinstalled/repaired oculus pc app,
enabled beta testing and turned it back off,
plugged headphones into the headset,
tried every audio device in in-game menus,
disabled and re-enabled every audio device in device manager,
and restarted both my PC and quest 2 multiple times between attempts. 

so far nothing has affected any change at all. When I have music playing on my desktop while establishing the link, there will be a brief blip of desktop audio through the headset, but it immediately goes away. I'm out of ideas as to how to fix this and help is appreciated.

    Once you are connected to the PC, open the control panel and click on sound and make your oculus the default. You can also try the c.same thing with the little speaker on your taskbar to the right of that bring up your sound devices and make the quest default. Sometimes it will switch back or it gets funny. If you open a game and no sound, hit the left button twice twice and it comes back. This happens to me alot especially in Virtual Desktop which looks so much better then airlink.

    Hey there, lovelyperilune, and thank you so much for bringing this to the community! Audio issues can be very frustrating, especially with so many adjustment options that can come up with PCVR setups and games, so we totally understand any frustration you're having trying to get this narrowed down to root cause. Please be assured we'll be happy to dig into this with you, and help you find a resolution! From the symptoms you describe, especially that short-burst of desktop audio that goes away, this definitely seems more like a software/setting issue, and not a "data being blocked or misinterpreted" hardware issue of some sort. You've already done many of the things we would normally recommend you try, and the suggestions that ItsNoodIes made shouldn't be missed either, but lets have you walk through these steps in this order as well to see if we can affect any change in your symptoms:

     

    • Check the PC Oculus app settings to make sure your headset is selected as the audio source:
    • Check to make sure the sound of your computer is turned up and not set to 0
    • Check to see if there’s any updates for your headset:
      • Open the Oculus app on your computer
      • Select Library in the left menu and then click Updates to check for updates
    • Force Power-cycle your headset:
      • Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
      • If the boot-up sound is not heard:
        • Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
        • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
        • Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
    • Restart your computer
    • Re-install Oculus Home application
    • Run the "Windows Audio Troubleshooter"

        hello! 

         

        after following the instructions in your previous reply, nothing worked except for uninstalling the Oculus home app via the Windows "uninstall a program" system dialogue. after reinstalling the Oculus home app, audio worked through the link cable for several hours, but it reverted to it's previous state of not having any audio through the link cable. the only thing i had done on my PC since reinstalling the Oculus PC app was use steam link to play a steamvr game. 

         

        i believe that somehow steamlink is interfering with the oculus audio drivers, as even when i have the oculus virtual audio device selected while using the link cable, there is no audio. as such, it's really inconvenient to have to fully uninstall and reinstall the oculus app in order to get audio through the link cable. is there a quicker way to reset oculus audio drivers so i can keep troubleshooting this?

    Here are also two other tricks I sometimes have to do to get my sound functioning properly both in the Oculus PC app and Virtual desktop. Load everything up and connect via the Oculus app, once connected click the desktop button and once viewing your desktop open File Explorer and if you kept the default installation for the application go to C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics and right click on Fixer.exe and run as administrator ( I personally have this set in compatibility mode to always run as admin so no need to right click every time if you need to know how to do this here is a link:  ) This will now close and disconnect the headset and reload the Oculus application, reconnect and your audio should now be working fine. Oddly enough this does fix my audio 99% of the time. If that doesn't work I then double check the currently selected default audio device in the sound settings in the control panel and task bar.

    For virtual desktop I sometimes have issues there too. I have found the strangest workaround there is to load the game or app I want to play and once it it is up I hit the Meta button twice on the controller, this drops me to my desktop, click twice again and now back in game with sound working. I have to do this most the time when I use headphones. 

     

    Also note that sometimes I have to double click the meta button too in the oculus app to get the sound working on my headphone also.

    I am have not had steam link audio through my headset since I got the cable. I really dont want to play airlinked 😞
