Oculus quest 2 on Quest Link disconnecting instantly

Hello people, I need help. I recently got a Quest 2 and I'm trying to connect it to my PC with the link cable. For some reason, Windows thinks the oculus is a phone, so it's automatically trying to import photos and videos from the headset, which interrupts and disconnects Link, then it connects link again, and windows does the same again. When I connect the headset to my PC, the headset asks if I allow the PC to acces the files on the oculus. If i allow, it starts doing what I wrote earlier. If i deny, it does a loop of disconnecting and connecting and asking to access the files again every second. How can I make it work? Has anyone had this issue? Please help.

  • Hey again, seeing as the issue is still lingering, can you check the pc app settings for an option to enable "USB option" prompt/question. Enable it, and next time you plug in it'll ask if you want to use this device as storage. Click on Deny.

Please let us know how this goes!

Hey hey, FronekDWR! We just wanted to pop on by as we see there is a big of a hiccup in getting your PCVR experience up and running, as we know this can hinder your VR experience.

    Repair the Oculus PC Application:

    • Go to www.oculus.com/setup and click Download Oculus software.
    • Select Repair.
      • If Windows asks you if you’re sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
      • If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info and then click Run anyway.
      • If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you've completed the repair.
    • Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
    • Launch the Oculus app.

    USB power settings:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Locate your USB ports - Expand the universal serial bus controller section at the bottom of the list. Look for the "USB 3.0/3.1/3.10 eXtensible" items.
    • Right click and select Properties.
    • Navigate to Power Management.
    • Ensure that the options to save power are deselected.

    Selective Suspending:

    • Right-click Start
    • Click Power Options
    • Click Additional Power Settings
    • Click Change plan settings
    • Click Change Advanced Power Settings
    • Find USB Settings
    • Make sure that Selective Suspend Setting is set to Disabled, and not Enabled.

We hope this help, please let us know if any changes occur, thank you!

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately the suggestions did not help. Windows is still automatically trying to import photos from the headset every 2 seconds when it's connected. Do you maybe have any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've tried that before, and nothing happened, though I did try one more time just in case. The Link app is repaired and restarted, my AutoPlay settings for both the Quest 2 and "Removable Drives" are set to take no action, but it still doesn't work. I think at this point there's a good chance that my problem may be unrelated. Instead of link disconnecting multiple times, the first time I start link my PC disconnects immediately. Then, even though the PC App can see the headset, the headset can't see my PC until I restart the app or the computer. Do you know what else I could do?

Hey yepyee. Here are some further Oculus link troubleshooting steps you can run through:

      1. Confirm that your PC meets the minimum requirements and system recommendations.
      2. Ensure your cable is properly plugged into a USB 3.0 port.
      3. Whitelist the Oculus software in any antivirus/firewall programs you use.
      4. Is an adapter or cable extender being used? If possible, remove these from the headset.
      5. Although some graphics cards can support multiple monitors, the Link can potentially experience issues if more than one monitor is connected. The only fully supported configuration is to have the headset and one monitor plugged in. If you are using 2 or more monitors or displays of any kind, please unplug the extras.
      6. The Link is designed to work in tandem with a computer monitor. Though some TV's may work, they are not a supported form of secondary display for the Link. If you're using a TV, tablet, projector, or any other type of display, we'd ask that you remove it and connect a computer monitor instead, to ensure that you're using a supported secondary display.
      7. Try reseating the cable on both the headset side and the PC side and inspect it for damage such as bent pins, frays, twists, kinks, etc.
      8. Update your PC graphics drivers.
      9. Disconnect any unnecessary USB devices (everything but the headset, keyboard, and mouse) and try the headset in another USB 3.0 port.
      10. Try the headset on another computer if possible.
      11. Update your Oculus app drivers:
      • Close the Oculus app
      • Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run command
      • Enter C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers
      • Open oculus-driver
      • Open the Oculus app and then try to connect your headset again

Hopefully those get things working normally for you!

1, 2, 6, and 11 are good, just did 3, 7, and 8. 9, 4, 5, and 10 don't really apply. Even though air link works, this still doesn't. and I'd rather not use Air Link since my wifi's unreliable and delayed by like a second sometimes.

Hey yepyee, are you using an official Link cable from Meta, or a third party cable? If it is a third party cable, do you know if it is active or passive, and is it rated at USB 3.0 speeds? Do you have another cable you can try? Not all USB C cables are the same, and some of them will not work as a Link cable.

It's third-party, not Anker, but Windows says it's using USB 3.0 and it's long enough to where it should be active, but that could be the problem. I've tried to run the cable test in the Link device setup, and it didn't work, but I'll try again with a few different (albeit much shorter) cables.

Update: Just used my phone's charging cable, which is well made and I've used it for data transfer and charging simultaneously for a while (probably passive though). I used it in a port that I know is USB 3.0 and reliable, and the same thing happened. I could try another cable, but it's half the length and I don't think it'll contribute much info.

Hey yepyee! Would there be any way you could test this with the official Quest pc link cable? We just want to narrow down any possible options on what could be causing this. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Looking forward to your response!

Well, no, there isn't any way, cause it's 80 dollars. I don't think the cable is the problem anyway, as I've tried other cables and both my computer and the Quest are clearly transmitting data and power across it. This looks like a different problem, either with my computer's hardware or the two devices' software.

As I've said before, I can't find that setting anywhere in the Meta Quest Link app's settings, nor the Quests settings either.

Hey yepyee. On the headset, go to Settings > System > Developer, and then turn on the USB Connection Dialog option. (Alternatively, you can open the Oculus mobile app, select the headset from the list, and then turn on the Developer Mode option.) Then connect the headset to the computer using a USB-C cable and put on the headset again. When prompted click "Deny" when asked to allow access to data. After doing all the requested steps, then attempt to connect your headset to PC link as normal and it should work properly.  We know how eager you are to jump back into VR, so please let us know if these steps worked for you. Looking forward to your response!

        Hi there.

I am having the same issue. ive followed all the steps provided (tho you cannot find a usb option in the dev menu in the oculus headsets., only one we get is for auto reconnect which doesnt even work) and nothing has worked. i have factory reset my pc, reformatted my solid state, basically done a whole reinstall of my OS and same with my quest pro. i even brought a new cable less than a week ago and its still happening. this has been going on for well over 2 years now (started to happen on my quest 2 before i got a quest pro on last new year)

i know i can run VR and to show heres my specs:

        CPU: Intel Core I5 10400F

        GPU: RTX 3060 12GB

        MotherBoard: B560 Pro-E 3.2 USB 2x 3.0 4x 2.0 USB

        16GB RAM

if you have any other suggestions please let me know as im at my wits end. i also gathered datalogs if required to be sent

  • Hi! The meta`s own cable is a bit too expensive so i cant afford that. Im propably returning the cable back to the company. I couldnt do anything about this problem from the settings or anywhere else, so the cable is propably broken. Thanks for trying to help and if i can still do something, please tell me.

  • Okay, well i will consider buing the metas own cable in the future. It started working again when i tried disconnecting every single cable but i know i will see this issue again. Thank you for helping me out. Your service is really fast and helpful.
