Oculus Rift S DisplayPort not connecting/working

This post is my last-ditch effort to get this thing to work.

I've owned this old-school Oculus Rift S for years and it's worked without an issue until a few weeks ago. I stopped using it for a few months and decided to boot it back up, but now Meta Quest Link says there is either no DisplayPort connection or that the DisplayPort connection isn't working. I did not change any hardware on my computer.

I've tried repairing/reinstalling the Meta Quest Link app, updating my drivers, rolling back drivers, and changing the connection to every combination of USB port and DisplayPort possible. I've scoured the internet for solutions and nothing works. I tried opening a support ticket with Meta, but somehow, this device I've used for years isn't on my Meta account and I cannot open a ticket unless I have a device on my account, even though I can see the device and serial number in Meta Quest Link. Even if I was able to get a ticket through, I've heard nothing but bad things about Meta's customer support and doubt they'd be able to help me. I heard that you can get a replacement cable that sometimes works, but Meta doesn't make them anymore and a lot of second-hand ones are either fake or don't work either.

I know the Oculus Rift S is a lost ancient artifact by today's standards, so I was considering upgrading to a Quest 3 once I had disposable income, but this hellish experience in trying to get my product to simply function is really badly turning me off from wanting to try any Meta products ever again. I'm instead considering paying extra and getting that new HTC headset that released last year.

Please, if anybody has a solution to get this old thing to work, I'll greatly appreciate it.

      Hey there,

We saw your post and wanted to lend a hand!

Having to send your Rift S back for evaluation can be a bit nerve recking and we would love to provide you with an update on the situation, before we can do that we need to collect a bit of information so we can locate the account and the headset! If you could reach out to us privately that would be greatly appreciated.

  • The most common DisplayPort issue is caused by the cable or port, not the software. Since the official Rift S cables are discontinued, the only reliable solution is to either find a proven replacement cable or use a compatible USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, otherwise a practical solution may be to upgrade the headset to a newer one.

        Serial Number

        1WMGH521C70214

        Version du firmware

        2.2.0

        GPU driver : 581.29 / 09.10.2025

The problem has been persisting for way too long, and the responses from Meta’s support team aren’t working. I changed the cable, thinking mine was broken, and even with a new (really expensive) one, it’s still unstable. Sometimes, after trying all my USB 3.0 ports and uninstalling the drivers, these steps end up working until the computer restarts. I loved my Rift S, but with the service we’re getting, I’m planning to switch to another brand!

I've run into the same issue. After leaving my Rift S in the box for over a year, I decided to try it on my new GPU (RX 9060 XT 16GB), but I keep getting the "No DisplayPort Connection" error during setup.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

    - Switched DisplayPort ports on my GPU — all ports work fine with my monitors.
     - Uninstalled the Oculus USB drivers and let them reinstall.
    - Reinstalled the Oculus app completely.
    - Restarting my PC

Despite this, the Rift S still fails to detect a DisplayPort connection.

Update: It finally recognized the Rifts S USB  and Display cable. I'm guessing that when I posted this the RX 9060XT wasn't supported yet.

    Hi there Jran,

We know how eager you are to get back into the world of VR using your Rift S and we understand you are receiving error messages that there is no DisplayPort connected or the connection isn't working.

Please disconnect the headset cable from your PC and headset, and inspect it for any twists, kinks, frays or bent pins. Should there be no damage to the cable, then please ensure the DisplayPort cable is is plugged into your primary GPU and the connections are secure. Also, make sure you are not using any third-party adapters.

Should the issue persist after you have followed all of the above troubleshooting steps, then please let us know, as we want to get you back into the world of VR as quick as possible!

    Looking forward to your response.

I have already verified that the cable does not have any visible damage. I have also confirmed that I am plugging it into my GPU (As I said, it doesn't work no matter what combination of ports I use). I also am not using any adapters. The connections on my PC are absolutely secure and work with any other devices/monitors.

That's great, thank you for confirming that for us. in that case, we have some troubleshooting steps for you to try so that we can get you back into the Metaverse as quickly as possible!

        Can you please try:

        1. Opening the Meta Quest Link app on your computer.
        2. Turn on your Quest headset.
        3. Plug your USB 3 cable into a USB 3 port on your PC and then plug the other end into your headset.
        4. A message displays in VR prompting you to Allow access to data. Select Deny. If you mistakenly 'Allow' the prompt, you must unplug your USB cable from the Quest and plug it back in.
        5. When prompted to Enable Meta Quest Link, select Enable to begin remote rendering using Meta Quest Link.

        2. Ensure Air Link is disabled in Settings on the headset.

If you have any issues with these steps, or if you still can't see anything on your Rift S, please let us know.

  • following up-  I'm not sure, but I think I was having issues because I did not have enough room on my C: drive -(it was practically full)  I cleaned it off a bit to get some more room, and my Oculus started working again.

  • I have an Oculus Rift S too, and have recently been experiencing spotty connection issues too- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - it worked this afternoon, but now doesn't - I am currently trying to get it to work with no luck :(

Was it also telling you that it was a DisplayPort problem?
