Oculus Rift stopped working with Horizon Link Update - infinite crash and reboot

Hi,

My Oculus Rift, although old, was working fine until a few days ago when Meta Horizon Link updated.  After the update, if the Rift is connected to the Windows 11 PC USB then the Meta app crashes and reboots continuously.  I see the program window for about 10 seconds, then it disappears, then appears again after a few more seconds.  I was able to remove the device and add it - during setup I get an error stating that a hardware issue is preventing me from setting up my headset and to please check cables.  Cables have been disconnected and reseated multiple times.

I went through the list of troubleshooting tips on another post which suggested disconnecting internet, unplugging the headset, rebooting in safe mode, uninstalling programs, deleting oculus files from %appdata%, deleting download cache, deleting program files, rebooting, installing and reconnecting but the problem persisted.  I took the added step of deleting everything on the drive that was found with dir *oculus*.* /s but that didn't seem to help.

I have two more steps to try:

Reformatting the PC

Swapping hard drives with one that has Windows 10 on it and worked fine a few months ago

I might try swapping drives just to prove without a doubt that it's not a hardware issue but the device has been working for a decade and the chances of a hardware failure at the same time the program updated seems highly unlikely to me so, yeah.  Any suggestions?

  • Same here, the issue started after the latest Windows update. Not sure if this could be related.

Any luck?  I've been watching the download to see if the filesize changes but no idea how often it's updated.

Nope, I switched to Virtual Desktop until a working update comes out.
