Pairing older headset

A friend gave me an old oculus headset for my kids and I can't get the **bleep** thing to connect to my account on my phone, the pairing codes dont Match it gives me 8 letters and numbers on my headset and on meta horizon app it gives me only 5 digit pairing numbers. Its driving me nuts and I am missing something 😕 please help

    8 digit code is usually for logging in to your Meta account on the web at auth.meta.com/device

    You need to be logged in with your account first before you can pair the headset.
