Passthrough via link in Meta Horizon Link app on Windows distorted after most recent update.

I'm having an issue with Passthrough since the latest Horizon app update. Quest 3 running v83.1034. Issue only manifests in Passthrough running on Meta Horizon Link 83.0.0.311.349) Using Unity 6.0 for testing but it affects all passthrough apps that I've made. Computer has an NVIDIA gpu.

Objects in passthrough apps have an upward offset duplicate that resembles a drop shadow. I've made a mockup to demonstrate what it looks like through the lenses.

That "drop shadow" doesn't quite follow the 3D objects, either, so if I turn my head it becomes slightly different in its offset. This happens with brand new projects in the demos, and it also happens with older software written in Unity 2022. I've tried a variety of the plugins in Unity, too, and it happens in every one. It did not happen prior to the Meta Quest Link update, though.

If passthrough is off, this does not happen. A 3D scene has no weird drop shadow type things.
On apps I built previously, which did not used to have this problem, all have this problem, now.

I reinstalled the Meta Quest app, and it has the same problem.

Any suggestions on this/can you replicate this? I'm not sure where to go from here and I can't test on an old version of the horizon app that I can see to isolate it to one thing or another.

After the update, the same thing happens to me. It doesn't appear on a wired connection, it appears on a Link connection, it used to work normally before, but it happened overnight after the update. I hope it gets fixed with a new update soon 😭My project has been disrupted.😭

  • What’s truly absurd is that Air Link works perfectly the very first time after a factory reset. However, the issue starts recurring immediately after that first session is closed. I am currently managing several business projects, and for client progress reviews, I actually have to prepare two Quest 3 units that have been factory-reset and never used for Air Link just to ensure the demonstration works. This bug is absolutely ridiculous.

      That's the clue.

Use the OculusDebugTool (in C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics) to disable Sliced Encoding. This setting needs to be reviewed after every Link update.

The issue persists even after following the recommended troubleshooting steps.

Disabled Sliced Encoding: I turned off "Sliced Encoding" in the Oculus Debug Tool.
Restarted OVR Service: I performed an "OVR Service Restart" to ensure a clean state.
Reconnected Air Link: I re-established the Air Link connection and launched the application.

I am following these steps to resolve the issue. Could you confirm if this is the correct procedure?

Open Meta Link app while in wireless mode.
Run Oculus Debug Tool as Administrator.
        Set 'Sliced Encoding' to Off.
Restart the OVR Service in the Service tab.

  • It looks like the issue is resolved. The symptoms have disappeared as of today. I've finished checking the status of both Quest 3 units.

Hi. I just came across with the same issue lately. How have you managed to solve this issue? I am still experiencing this shadowy rectangle issue on my new project.
