PCVR Connection establishment issues
At this point I’m honestly angry about the current Link connectivity issues.
I have no idea who on the Meta side has signed off on such an unbelievably buggy PC-Link experience in 2025. And yes, I’m running the latest public drivers, latest Meta software, official Link cable, and a 5090-class laptop. I develop PCVR games for a living.
Back in the Oculus era I had zero connectivity issues. Not “less,” not “rarely” - zero. Now? It happens every single time I try to connect.
Here’s the routine:
I start the Meta Quest app. I plug the official Link cable. I power on the headset. And it always shows “PC not detected.” Every. Single. Time.
Then begins the ridiculous dance: unplug, replug, confirm a pointless warning inside the headset, unplug again, replug again… and maybe the connection establishes, or maybe not. It’s completely inconsistent and feels broken at a fundamental level.
Next step? Restart the headset. If I’m lucky, the PC connection appears. If not, it’s back to the cable gymnastics. And before anyone suggests it, no, it’s not the cable. It’s the official, premium-priced Link cable.
As a developer, this is beyond frustrating. I’m wasting time power-cycling the headset and playing cable roulette instead of building VR content. This workflow is simply unacceptable.
Meta developers: whatever has happened to the Link stack since the Oculus days, please fix it. This is not a minor issue, it’s a regression that directly affects creators, developers, and serious users.
