Thanks for reaching out with your question about why the owner account on a Meta Quest headset can automatically connect via Link, while a second account can't. You're not missing anything, this behavior is actually by design, and we’re happy to explain why!
It all comes down to Developer Mode and a setting called "USB Auto-Connect." This feature allows the headset to automatically launch Link when a cable is plugged in. However, it's only available to the account that has Developer Mode enabled, and only the owner account can turn on Developer Mode.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Developer Mode Settings Some advanced features, like automatic Link connection, are tied to Developer Mode on the headset.
- Account Restrictions Only the owner account can enable Developer Mode, which unlocks access to settings like "USB Auto-Connect."
- Second Account Limitations Since secondary accounts can't enable Developer Mode, they don’t have access to the auto-connect feature. That’s why manual selection from the Link menu is needed.
