Quest 2 controllers not working

Both of my controllers will constantly not be able to be tracked or have any buttons work. They are connected and have a full battery but still nothing works. I've also tried reseting my headset and I am not sure what to do because I have tried every possible thing. If anyone knows what I can do to fix this please help me out.

  • hi many thanks for your quick response, it appears a full factory reset wasnt necessary in this instance, putting it into boot screen i inadvertantly held the power button too long and on rebooting the controllers were responsive again, many thanks,  fortunately i have one very happy child again

I am having the same issue. I unpaired and paired the controllers left the batteries out overnight, as well as a factory reset on the headset, everything that has been suggested.  I contacted the customer service department and after going over everything the only thing they offered was for me to purchase new controlers at a "discounted" rate. While $100 for a pair is good, a new headset isn't much more, and the replacement is a process. Someone else had the issue and was advised it was a glitch in the firmware update and they replaced their remotes even though they were out of warranty.

Hello there, HashBrown311. We know how important it is to have working controllers, they are pretty important for an immersive VR experience, and we would love to look into this for you!

    • First, be sure you have removed the batteries from your Quest 2 controllers for 5+ minutes, and then putting a brand new pair of batteries into them. This should help the controllers reset and often start working again.
    • Next, try unpairing the controllers and pairing them up to the headset again using the mobile application. Steps for this can be found here: Pair and unpair Touch controllers
    • And lastly for the time being, are the controllers showing any signs of life, such as vibrating, flashing lights, or anything else?

Just let us know, we look forward to investigating this for you further!

For the battery part I have tried that because I looked up some solutions online but didnt turn out to work. But whenever this happens yes the controllers do flash showing they are connected to the headset but then they turn right back off. This will happen when the headset is turned on.

hi we are having the same difficulty we have tried removing the batteries and repairing the controllers which whilst the controllers do obey the prompts with regards to lights on the controllers blinking and vibrating and the app saying they have been paired correctly does not solve the issue, ie no red beams in the metaquest head set erratically moving sluggish white dot that is hard to control and does not respond to button presses. all that is visible in the head set is the user name in blue and two options a greyed out switch user button and a blue continue niether of which are responsive. any help would be appreciated

  • having just rechecked the dot is not being controlled by the handset at all just head movement,

Hello there, @Evandontstopmenow. We know how important proper controller tracking can be, and thank you for sharing your experiences as well. Have you tried a Factory Reset? This is an important step as it can help the headset clear any software issues causing issues tracking. Please give the steps for the headset below a shot, and let us know if anything changes! You can reach out to us directly from our Profile Page if needed as well.

      1. Turn off your headset.
      2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
      3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
      4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

  • Subject: My Quest 2 Controllers Won’t Turn On – Completely Unresponsive

    Message:

    Hi,
I have a Meta Quest 2, and both of my controllers have stopped working. It started with the left controller — the tracking was glitchy, and eventually it stopped working completely. A month later, the right controller also stopped turning on.

I’ve tried multiple brand-new AA batteries, restarted the headset, and attempted pairing through the Meta app. There’s no light, no vibration, and no response from either controller.

At this point, I believe both are fully unresponsive and likely have a hardware issue. Can you please help me figure out repair or replacement options?

    Thanks.
