Quest 2 Controllers Unresponsive in Games After Latest Update – Urgent Fix Needed!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an issue I'm experiencing with my controllers after the latest update to my headset, as I understand many others are facing the same problem.

First of all, I've tried all the troubleshooting steps suggested by Meta Store Support, including:

  • Ensuring my play area is free from reflective surfaces and light interference.
  • Cleaning the tracking cameras.
  • Removing third-party accessories.
  • Re-pairing the controllers to the headset.
  • Replacing the batteries (even though they were at 60%).

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. My controllers work fine in the menus but are completely unresponsive in games. I can only use the Oculus button to exit to the main menu, but navigating or controlling within games is impossible.

This problem started today after I installed the recent update. I used the headset yesterday without any issues, but after turning it off and on again today, the controllers no longer work as expected in games.

This seems to be a widespread issue caused by the latest update.

Could anyone from Meta confirm when this will be resolved?
It’s a critical bug, and I hope it gets addressed quickly.

Thanks for any updates or advice!

  • It helped by factory reset the headset, and re-downloading all the previous games and apps. All data returned due to being backed up in the cloud before. I never tried doing a hard reboot though. If it happens again I’ll try that first.

    Hi Mr.Charis,

Thank you so much for getting in touch with us regarding the problems you are having with your controller. If you have not tried already, you can also have a look at the following steps that could help with resolving this problem.

    • Remove unsupported third-party accessories that may affect tracking or controller detection. For example, controller and headset covers, controller attachments, etc.
    • Hard reboot the headset: Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound. If the boot-up sound is not heard:
      1. Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
      2. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
      3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
    • Unpair and pair the controller to the headset

If that does not resolve the problem, we would suggest that you create a bug report. Please see the following link on how to do this. This will give us more information on the issue and allow our engineers to look for a resolution.

If you have any other questions, you can always let us know.

  • After the update, I had the same issue.  I went into settings and found hand control had been activated.  I disabled it and that was a fix for me.
