Quest 2 Link (via cable) repeatedly crashing, requiring restart

Hey there, I've started having this issue pretty randomly after moving my setup to a new place. I use the link cable to connect my Quest 2 to my computer to play PCVR. However, every 5-10 minutes, the game will freeze and lag out for a while. I have to either unplug and replug my headset or go into the quest 2 menu and restart link for it to get fixed.

The view inside the headset will glitch out severely if I turn my head too far from the original position, which is shown in the picture.

I'm on my latest drivers, latest meta quest link app, latest quest 2 update, everything, and this is the only issue I'm having with link or the quest 2 in general. It's pretty frustrating and makes most games kinda unplayable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there crash_oner, we came across your post and wanted to offer some assistance.

We want all of our users to have the best experience possible, therefore, we'd love to look into this for you.

Thank you for being proactive in making sure that you have the latest software, app and drivers.

Firstly, we'd suggest ensuring that your device is properly connected to the Meta Quest Link app. To do this, please connect your headset to your computer using a Link cable, then follow the below steps:

    1. Plug your USB 3 cable into a USB 3.0 port on your PC, then plug the other end into your headset.
    2. Press Meta button/Oculus button on your controller to open the universal menu.
    3. Select the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu to open Quick settings.
    4. Select  Link, then select the computer that your headset is plugged into.
    5. Select Launch.

We'd also suggest restarting your headset and computer. Steps on how to do that can be found here. Please see the following article which provides additional troubleshooting steps.

If, after this, you are still experiencing issues, please don't hesitate to reach out to our wonderful Customer Support team so that one of our lovely colleagues can look into this further for you.

This is the most useless answer the Meta support team could have given to solve a problem like this. I have the same issue, I’ve been playing with Quest Link for years, and the problem started after the update that was released on September 13, 2025. So obviously, it’s the updates you release that are to blame, which 50% of the time irreparably break the Link. I hope you fix it, because I’m very close to throwing my Quest in the trash and buying a headset from another brand.

        Me too!

I have to re-install the link app every time I restart the computer grrrr!!!!

It used to work perfectly every time... Why do they (META) have to mess with stuff that is working?

  • You can kindy fix it by plugging it into something LOWER than 3.0, I recommend 2.3 or something like that, because it works, just note that after a few hours you will get weird lines, that´s because the Port can´t transfer all the Data and your Pixel-Count will be around halfed and nope, there is no other way.

  • did yall ever find a fix to it? im having the exact same issue

    Hi there lawclaw1 ,

Thanks for reaching out, and we're  really sorry to hear about the experience with your headset and Link setup.  It’s possible that environmental or connection-related factors are contributing to the instability. Here are a few steps that may help:

Check USB Port Stability:  Try using a different USB 3.0 port on your computer. Some ports may have lower bandwidth or power delivery, which can cause intermittent disconnections.

Test a Different Link Cable:  If possible, test with another high-quality USB-C cable. Even small inconsistencies in cable integrity can lead to freezing or tracking glitches.

Disable USB Power Saving: Open Device Manager on your PC.

Scroll down and expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.

For each item listed under this section:

    Right-click and select Properties

Navigate to the Power Management tab

If available, uncheck any boxes that say “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

Check Lighting and Tracking Environment: Ensure your new setup space is well-lit and free of reflective surfaces like mirrors or windows. Poor lighting or reflections can interfere with tracking and cause visual glitches.
Update Graphics Drivers and Link Software : Even if you’re on the latest version, try reinstalling both your GPU drivers and the Meta Quest Link software to rule out any corrupted files.

  • This just happened to me (your screenshot, when I turned my head from side to side) when I tried to use AirLink. I've been using AirLink for the past 5 months with no issues until now. I closed and re-opened the Meta Quest Link app and reconnected my Quest 3 to my PC, and it was still the same problem.

The problem actually started after I found a (hidden?) setting in the Meta Quest Link PC app to "test my USB cable". I wasn't using a cable, but I selected the setting out of curiosity. The USB cable screen was too big to fit on my monitor and some options further down the screen were not visible because of this, and the page could not be resized, so I hit the TAB key a couple of times then hit the Enter key and managed to get out of that screen. After that, I connected my headset via AirLink and my screen was all messed up just like in your screenshot!

I fixed it simply by fully powering off the Quest 3, then powering it back on and also rebooting my PC. Now AirLink is working great again.

Yes the non resizeable window is awful.

I can usually reach the buttons at the bottom if I put my taskbar on the right side of the monitor, other people work around by changing their monitor screen in settings 90 degrees, so their is more space to see what's further down.
