Quest 3 controller pairs but not working at all

right quest 3 controller paired and tracking, but no inputs work. Controller moves around when viewed through headset. but if you pull the trigger, grip , thumbstick, a, b, or meta button. they don't work, or move like there even getting a signal when viewed through headset. Left hand is fine.  Charged every thing up, left batteries out over night, paired controllers through app. tried factory reset but cant continue since it wants me to press the meta button on the right controller and it wont do it

  • Hey everyone! Losing access to the various input methods on your controllers can definitely make for a difficult experience, so we'd love to help out! If your controller isn't registering any proper inputs, be sure to double check for any status lights on the controller to make sure it's receiving power. If the controller is receiving power, we recommend trying out a controller factory reset, which is a bit different from a traditional headset factory reset. A controller factory reset resets the controller firmware itself.

To perform a factory reset on the Quest 3 controllers:

    1. Use the correct button combination to start the factory reset process.

    • Right: Hold the A button and tap the Home (Meta logo) button 5 times.
    • Left: Hold the X button and tap the Menu button 5 times.

    2. The LED will blink orange/white while the factory reset is being performed.

    3. The LED will then change to light-blue during boot.

    4. Controllers can be used again as normal once boot completes.

If you're stuck on the "pull tab from controller" screen after the reset, try waiting on the screen for 5 minutes. This should advance to the controller pairing screen where you should be able to finish pairing the controllers.

Hopefully that does the trick, but if not, feel free to reach out to us in a PM! We'd be more than happy to continue helping out there!

  • I did ask earlier in this thread....has anyone been able to follow the instructions to reset their controllers successfully AND note them flashing blue when rebooting..?

    Thanks

  • so i have a meta quest three and my left controller is not really responding by its tracking what i'm saying is it's not recognizing if i'm pointing or squeezing all the triggers It will recognize Me squeezing the grip but it won't recognize me squeezing the front trigger and it keeps thinking I'm pointing and I'm finding this out mostly from VR chat when I never had this problem before. The Quest three controller is fine. But it just doesn't seem to recognize anymore for some reason And my quest too works just fine on Vierta. I don't have really any problems on it. Just this left controller. It's never have this problem before and now it

  • I know this might be something you tried, but when i tried to reset the controllers i thought it did not work.
However i found out that my headset was paired with another controller.

i followed the unpair and pair tutorial and everything worked, maybe some of you guys can use this as a solution:

This is so helpful! Thanks for sharing those steps vrfx.2023. I know a lot of people (me included) learn better by visually seeing the process step by step like the video you linked, as opposed to reading a list of steps. This will be so helpful for others having this issue, so thanks again!

  • Same problem.   About every 3rd or 4th time I turn it on the controllers don't track.   I don't see them in the VR.   I can get like the voice rec to work by hitting the meta button.  So the controller works in that sense but no tracking and I cannot click the login.  So I essentially have a $650 paper weight.    And this keeps happening.  It will work sometimes and sometimes I turn it on and cannot use it so I just turn it off and try again a few days later.  It's kinda worthless and frustrating.

Hi, my right controller button on the grip side does not work. I’ve tried new batteries, reset, and on of this works. I don’t know why.

  • Hi, I ended up contacting Meta and getting a replacement controller under warranty.  I think with emails and then the return or the faulty unit then the issue of the replacement it took about 10 days in total.

May I ask how long it took them to get you a new controller? I have been dealing with them with the same problem.  They want me to mail in the broken one first then after they process it which takes 7 days after they receive it they will send out another one.  Seems so long.

  • My left controller isn't working either. I have changed the batteries, factory reset my whole system, still nothing. Was there a bad update or something? T.I.A.

I am having a similar issue. I received a replacement RMA headset but my controllers refuse to pair with it during Setup. Because it's in Setup and that's the first step, I can't get to the point of inputting wifi data or pairing to the app.

I tried factory resetting the headset but it did not work. So I left batteries out of the controllers overnight. When I tried again in the morning, the headset said the left controller was updating and it paired! But I cannot recreate the same thing with the right controller and I am still completely stuck in Setup. This is so disappointing, I haven't been able to use Quest in weeks 😞

Hello, BadSide13! We understand that a wonderful VR experience could be ruined by losing controller tracking. We see you have previously attempted a few troubleshooting step with no luck, and you mentioned that you also tried to factory reset your whole system. Have you also tried doing a factory reset on your controllers?

Try following these instructions to reset your controllers to factory defaults if all other solutions have failed.

              1. Use the correct button combination to start the factory reset process.

Right: Hold the A button and tap the Home (Meta logo) button 5 times.

Left: Hold the X button and tap the Menu button 5 times.

2 . The LED will blink orange/white while the factory reset is being performed.

              3. The LED will then change to light-blue during boot.

              4. Controllers can be used again as normal once boot completes.

Unfortunately the controllers don't respond to this series of button inputs at all. I can't be sure if the button combination was changed at some point and these inputs worked at one time, but as of the time I write this they don't do anything whether the headset is on or off and there are multiple confirmations across Reddit threads that this does not work.

  • My left controller has stopped working. I've changed batteries, i tried to factory reset the controller but there is no life at all. I've re-started the headset numerous times but no change. The right hand controller seems to be working correctly. Is there anything else I can try (other than a factory reset)? it does seem more likely to be a hardware issue to me.

I tried everything, all these steps, and the factory reset, and still can't get past confirm boundaries. The headset doesn't seem to recognize that there's always at all with brand new batteries. I also tried to do a factory reset on each of the controllers, it didn't seem to work.

      Hi,

Left controller stopped working. The white light keeps blinking but the controller doesn't register in the headset. I tried factory reset of the left controller, and also factory reset of both controllers. None of that worled.

Eventually, I followed your instructions to factory reset the headset. Now the headset is stuck on the very first welcome screen where it asks to pull the battery tab out of the left controller. The left controller has new battery and it keeps blinking but headset doesn't recognize it.

I ended up returning my headset and buying a new one. From looking at this, and other forums, it seems that many Quest 3 headsets have an issue with pairing one or both controllers. I hope Meta addresses this issue.
