Quest 3 repeatedly trying to connect via link cable (repeats chime noise)

I have seen a few posts on this on the internet but my quest 3 just keeps chiming and trying to connect constantly when I plug the link cable in. Is there a fix yet? I use my quest 3 for sim racing on iracing and it needs to be connected for the way I use it and this makes it useless and sim racing not dooable for me until this is fixed. As you can imagine sim racing means I have a lot of expensive PC equipment now just sitting there doing nothing until this is fixed and of course I can't race / enjoy my hobby. This started a few days ago when an update was installed and applied - I do wish meta would not mess with things when it has worked fine - these updates seem to cause more trouble than they are worth.

Does anyone know if a fix is coming soon to fix this? If so how do we apply it if the Quest 3 won't connect? I am a bit concerened that this update has "bricked" my new Quest 3.

There are a huge amount of problems around this. A big proportion of the community posts are about this. I'm glad in a way I don't have a powerful pc and never even tried to connect to one. I'm stand alone only and though I might be missing out on some things, I don't have the stress and troubles many people are reporting. It seems to be a lottery for if you're going to have issues or not. I really hope you get this fixed. You should not be having issues like this. It should be simple plug and play. My fingers are crossed for you ! 🤞🤞🤞

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. I have had the headset a few months now and it is brilliant when it works correctly but often I have to restart several times and faff about with it to get it to work correctly. There seem to be almost weekly updates that mess it up nearly every time. Last time it updated (2 weeks ago) it changed the setting to do with sound so I had no sound and had to spend an hour trying different things to get it to work again.  When it works sim racing in VR is brilliant and it is brilliant but sadly I have spent a lot of time over the last months re-setting it up, re-booting it and my PC to get it to work as it should. It is very frustrating.

I've had exactly the same problem since the Meta Quest Link update two days ago. Twenty times an hour, I hear the Windows sounds for ‘device disconnect and device connect’. It's really annoying!!! But my device isn't disconnecting. I can continue playing as normal (also SimRacing). I've now simply disabled the warning sounds in the Windows sound settings and am waiting for a fix.

  • Exactly the same here, usb has been working perfectly but now getting the connect disconnect and constant usb chime all the time and has been like this for a few days

I don't know, when there will be a fix....

But you don't have to worry about not getting the update/fix.

The Quest doesn't need to be connected to a PC to receive updates. How are all standalone players supposed to get their updates if a PC is required?😉

The Quest and the link app receive their updates/fixes separately. They don't even run the same system.

  • Thanks that's good to know it can still update, so it's waiting for them to come up with a fix for the probelm then - hopefully sooner rather than later as I only use my headset for VR sim racing connected via cable.

  • Been having this problem since last update aswell, what works for me is restarting pc and then connecting cable to my q3 before logging in, then make sure when it’s chiming to press on the usb connection to allow file sharing, it should be right above the middle panel on the q3

  • They did introduce a setting. And of course Set it to try and Connect to your PC automatically When a link cable is connected. I would start by trying to disable the Automatic Connection setting

Sorry I should've said go into settings and do a search for Link And you'll see "link auto-connect

  • That chime noise you're hearing usually means the Quest 3 is repeatedly connecting and disconnecting from your PC via the Link cable. Here are a few things you can try to fix it:

    Check the Cable
Make sure you're using a high-quality USB 3.0 cable (ideally the official Link cable or a reliable third-party one that supports data + power). Also, plug it directly into a USB 3.0 port on your PC — avoid USB hubs or extension adapters.
    Try a Different Port
Sometimes certain USB ports on a PC don't play nice with the Quest. Try switching to another USB 3.0 port, preferably on the back of your desktop if you're using one.
    Disable USB Power Saving
Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click each USB Root Hub > Properties > Power Management, and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
    Update Everything
Make sure your Quest 3, Oculus software (Meta Quest app), and graphics drivers are all fully updated.
    Use Air Link Temporarily
If you can’t get it stable right away, try using Air Link as a workaround. It works surprisingly well on a good Wi-Fi connection.

  • I have the same issue on my Quest 2. I complained it about it here, and it got labeled as "abuse" and removed.

They have no intention of fixing this. Meta doesn't want you to play PCVR games, they want you to play the games that you buy in the App Store on your headset so they can take their percentage on sales.
