Quest 3 stuck on USB Update Mode Loop

A few days ago, I was playing VR table tennis on my Quest 3. I took the headset off for a drink of water, and when I put it back on, the screen went black. I did a forced restart, and it showed a screen with a progress bar. After the progress bar completed, the usual boot animation played. However, once the animation finished, the screen went black again.
I forced a reboot again, but this time it entered USB UPDATE MODE. None of the options on the screen are responsive — selecting any of them just brings me back into USB UPDATE MODE. I also can’t connect it to my PC.
I’ve seen that others who experienced the same issue were able to get a replacement through their retailer or Meta support. However, I’m located in China and bought my Quest 3 through Amazon Global (Amazon’s international shopping service). The original seller is Amazon US, but the customer service for Amazon Global told me they cannot provide after-sales support for this issue and advised me to contact Meta directly.
I really want to know: what should I do in this situation? Why can’t Meta authorize third parties to handle repairs or replacements for cases like this? I would even be willing to pay for a fix — but right now, I’m just stuck staring at my unusable Quest 3, completely helpless.

  • The last v78.1028 update was borked. Reinstalling the update (it should now be a 105Mb file not a 165Mb file) will fix the problem. Try to update using your PC with a USB cable and the Quest Software Update tool here.

Sounds great, When I select the “Sideload Update” option, the headset briefly flashes and then immediately returns to USB UPDATE MODE again. During this process, the Quest Software Update Tool shows a popup saying that an Android device has been detected. However, when I click "Continue", it says "No device found."

Have you tried doing a factory reset? Also, if you have the MetaHorizon app set up on your mobile phone, you can force the factory reset using that app (tap the headset icon, scroll down to Headset Settings->Advanced Settings->Factory Reset.

I have the EXACT same problem, NO OPTIONS WORK (except power off).
Even though I have the update file it doesn't want to connect to anything or even to the meta site updater.

Even ^MetaSupport isn't understanding the problem
No options work, you cannot get past step 3 because it will just reboot, back to USB Update screen

If this is unfixable, last time I'm buying a meta tbh, there's so many posts about this but no answer or support from Meta - they told me to buy a new one literally (I'm outside of warranty).
