Quest Pro controllers go to sleep too quickly.

Both my partner and I have Quest Pros. We AirLink them to our PCs and play VRChat that way. However, we've both noticed that if we stop moving our hands for only about 10 to 15 seconds the controllers seem to go into a sleep mode which causes our characters in VR's arms to drop straight down to their sides. We can wake the controllers back up by wiggling them a bit but it's quite annoying and jarring to have your arms constantly fall to your sides. It's especially annoying when you're using one controller to scroll through a menu and the other goes to sleep causing the game to enter into one controller mode and then the controller you were using to scroll a menu now moves your character so the menu closes and your character starts moving in some direction. I have looked all over but do not see a way to adjust how frequently the controllers go to sleep when not being moved. I've also tried factory resetting both the headset and the controllers.

    We appreciate that this may appear to be a problem, however it is a function that the controllers have in order to conserve battery life. They will sleep in order to save energy; however, we have found that some of our customers have been able to work around this by enabling the hand tracking feature. You can also suggest an idea for a fix to our developers on our ideas page as we realize this is something that might need a look at.

    We appreciate that this may appear to be a problem, however it is a function that the controllers have in order to conserve battery life. They will sleep in order to save energy; however, we have found that some of our customers have been able to work around this by enabling the hand tracking feature. You can also suggest an idea for a fix to our developers on our ideas page as we realize this is something that might need a look at.

      Thank you for your response though this is disappointing to me. It does not appear to be a problem it is a significant issue that breaks immersion. I figured the intention was to conserve battery life but at the cost of breaking immersion it's not a feature that was well enough thought out or fleshed out. I will post in the ideas page but are you able to point to any ideas which have actually been implemented? I have seen tons of good ideas there but I am unaware of any which have been implemented yet. Also, are you saying enabling hand tracking prevents the controllers from falling asleep or to use hand tracking instead of the controllers? If you mean to use hand tracking instead of the controllers then this is not a good solution for me since as soon as I put my hands outside of the sight of the headset they are no longer tracked where with the controllers they are.

        Hi again WestX64! We meant enabling the hand tracking can allow your controllers to take a bit longer to fall asleep.

         

        As for your inquiry about which post was selected to be implemented, it'll be difficult for us to search through all of the threads to find an exact post. However, one example we can provide is many of the games on our store have been brought to our attention by gamers and users like yourself.

      The issue has already been suggested by many people who complain of the same symptoms and suggest ideas in 2023. The same problem is currently occurring in 2024, and Meta Quest said it is simply an automatic sleep mode to save batteries, and the official answer was that there is no reason to improve it.
       
      However, it only occurs when you play PCVR, and even when you take various actions that do not activate sleep mode at all, automatic sleep mode occurs, and there are many problems such as poor quality and game impossible.
       
      In particular, if you ignore the sleep mode and continue to take various actions, a heat warning lamp will be generated, and various actions will automatically turn off or off the controller 
       
      It has a completely different quality than other competitor controllers.
       
      Therefore, the developers should take this quality issue seriously, and add the ability to indicate controller settings or temperature values within the headset body and set steps in sleep mode.
       
      Also, within the customer support counseling center, please acknowledge the defects of the Meta Quest Pro controller and present a roadmap accordingly to the requestors. Some counselors recognize that Meta Quest Pro controllers have issues and are making refund and exchange requests, but the problem with Meta Quest Pro is that they continue to deliver 2022 inventory products to customers in a vicious cycle.
       
      I've been a user since Oculus Quest 2, and this nightmare started after I used Quest Pro to use the facial feature. I want you to prove through quality whether Oculus has fallen in quality since transitioned to Meta or has tried to turn a blind eye to the inability to solve it. 
       
      Once again, the controller issue can be solved very simply and can be solved through fast software updates. The will to it is up to the developers. Please care about the quality of previous products, not following Apple's Vision Pro.

    Could also be an issue with VRchat.  Might be worth discussing this on their discord channel.

    TomCgcmfc that idea thread you linked was posted by me after the person from Meta let me know this is something built in as a feature and to post an idea up. It is not an issue with VRChat as others I have spoken to are having the same issues with other applications as well. Maybe there is some other issue in VRChat people may be having that may seem similar or something but this is definitely the controllers themselves going to sleep too quickly.

    This is a major issue and not at all a feature.  Please, give us, your users, the CHOICE to conserve battery or not.  It constantly breaks my games because I'm sitting with my arms and/or hands slack while I listen to someone speak or a scene play out.  IT BREAKS OUR GAMES.  Hand tracking does not fix it because many times my hands are not in the field of tracking.  There has to be a way for me to tell my controllers to not sleep for 2, or even 5 minutes.  It's a BUG, not a feature and I'm begging you to fix it.

    Its not just the pro controllers.

    Please give us the option to adjust or turn off the bloody sleep on the controllers, browsing media and constantly having to shake the controller for a few sec to wake it up after watching some media is annoying as %^&*

    I don't understand why there is no option to set timers or turn these options off...
    There should just be an "Advanced User Settings"  menu so people can actually adjust more like these settings at the knowledge of differing from factory specified performance.

    The controllers going to sleep to early is also a huge problem for us in multiple use cases.
    Few examples :
    - People watching a movie in VR.
    - People doing Yoga or meditation in VR.
    - People doing social interactions with each other in VR.
    - People holding longer meetings in VR.

    We have problems in all these cases where the controllers often if not ALL the time turn off from not moving enough and people suddenly start focusing on trying to get them to wake up and align again with Full Body Tracking. Breaking not only their own immersion but also the once from others around them. For us its the #1 complain people talk about afters sessions.

    Work-Around?
    We have a semi-work around, but its far from wanted. By pulling the analog trigger a tiny bit (closing your hand) you can keep the controllers awake. So we tell people now to always slightly squeeze the trigger to keep the controllers awake.

    We understand higher battery drain, we don't agree on "heat issues"  as these we should then also not be allowed to non-stop use them in more active activities likes games... When they are empty, they are empty and we either swap them or charge them.... 

    That also brings me to another issue... let us please bind multiple controllers to one headset, make make the pairing setup faster so we can quickly swap them if they turn out to be defect of empty.

    I honestly wonder whether Meta has no intention of fixing the Quest Pro and its Pro controllers, or if they simply lack the ability to do so. Given the recent experience with the new UI/UX—which is atrocious and wildly inefficient—I’m inclined to believe it’s the latter.

     

    VR desperately needs a new competitor. I’ve loved the Quest Pro for years, but Meta’s negligent development and poor response have left me deeply disappointed. At this point, I don’t even want to use another VR product from Meta again.

    The marked "Solution" was not a solution at all.  Not even a workaround.  I'm not using hand tracking, there are no buttons, thumb sticks, or triggers on my hands.

    The controller sleep settings have become even more aggressive in the most recent builds (v79), even when I'm holding my controllers (albeit fairly still), the controllers go to sleep and disconnect when using Link. Either a setting to prevent sleep, or at least a more sensitive setting should be applied. My hands (even when I keep them as still as possible) are clearly still moving a little vs. when controllers are placed on a desk. (And I have auto-switch to hands disabled, so they shouldn't switch even when I put them down!)

    Switching on hand control circumvents this. Which makes power saving during handcontrol absent. This power saving is therefor clearly switchable, so why not implement it as an option? I don't like handcontrol for a lot of reasons, of which lack of accuracy and false positives are two.
