Remediation Steps for users blocked in v76 with Wi-Fi 7 Routers

We are aware of an issue affecting some users with Wi-Fi 7 routers/Access Points after the recent software release. Our team is working diligently to resolve this problem, and an updated software release with a fix will be available shortly.

In the meantime, we recommend trying the following remediation options to help mitigate the issue:

Option 1: Create a new network on the WiFi router with open security and connect to it

Note: This option requires creating a new network without any security settings. Please be cautious when using this option, as it may compromise your network's security.

Steps:

  1. Create a new open network on the Wi-Fi router
    1. Go to Wireless setting of your router -Follow your router's user guide for specific instructions
    2. Create a new network, provide the network name
    3. Keep the security open (in security selection options - choose open or none)
    4. Connect any other device like mobile to this new network and see if you can get internet access. This step will validate the above new network is working fine
  2. Connect the Quest device to this new network
  3. Update the software for your Meta Quest - details
    1. In Quest HMD, go to Setting > General > Software Update
    2. Check for the new OS (the new OS should be dated April 16 or later)
    3. Apply this update
    4. This will reboot the Quest device and it will come up with new OS (may take few minutes)
  4. Connect to previous network (secured)
    1. After reboot, check if the device is already connected to the previously connected network (secure network)
      1. On Quest device, go to the Settings > Wi-Fi Settings
      2. Check the network name it is connected to
      3. If it is connected to your previous network (secured) then it is good
    2. If the Quest is not connected to the previous network (secured) and connected to the open network then
      1. Press the Connect button next to the previous network (secured) in the Wi-Fi setting
      2. This will connect the Quest device the previous network (secured)
  5. Delete the open network
    1. On your router settings, delete the open network
    2. Save the setting (it may restart your router)

Option 2. Updating security to WPA3-Personal on the WiFi router.

Steps:

  1. Update your WiFi router's security settings to WPA3-Personal**
    1. Go to your router Wi-Fi settings
    2. Note down what is your original security setting (it should be something like WPA 2 etc)
    3. Change the security setting to “WPA3-Personal” (There should be a dropbox options)
    4. Save the setting and exit (this may restart the router)

Follow your router's user guide for specific instructions

  1. Reboot the Quest device and it should automatically connect to this network
  3. Move the Wi-Fi router back to original security setting
    1. Go to your router Wi-Fi settings
    2. Change the security setting to the original setting (it should be in dropbox options)
    3. Save the setting and exit (this may restart the router)
  4. Make sure the Quest device gets connected to this network after router comes up

Option 3 : Create mobile hotspot and connect to it

Steps:

  1. Create a mobile hotspot on your device
  2. Connect the Quest device to the mobile hotspot instead of your usual WiFi network
  3. Make sure the Quest device is connected to the internet
  4. Update the software for your Meta Quest - details
    1. In Quest HMD, go to Setting > General > Software Update
    2. Check for the new OS (the new software update should be dated April 16 or later)
    3. Apply this update
    4. This will reboot the Quest device and it will come up with new OS (may take few minutes)
  5. Move the Quest device back to Wi-Fi network
    1. On Quest device go to  Settings > Wi-Fi Settings and click on the Wi-Fi network which you had connected to earlier
    2. Make sure the Quest device gets connected to the Wi-Fi network

Important: Once the updated OS release with the fix is available, you will no longer need to use these remediation options. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue.

**WPA3-Personal - Some of the routers may have WPA3-personal and WPA3-mixed mode. In case the WPA3-Personal mode does not work then do the same steps for WPA3-Mixed mode

  • So after V76.1023 Update the wifi connection speed capped on Quest Pro issue still hasn’t been patched, here’s some new test results under it

2.5G LAN Quest Pro to PC 5Ghz Wifi connection speed

2.5G LAN Quest Pro to PC 6Ghz Wifi connection speed

    Updated today

  • Meta should do a feature freeze for a couple of releases and concentrate on fixing bugs.

Yeah my link software updated yesterday, went to use it today... took forever to open and load (when it would normally loads up with windows) and doesnt acknowledge the quest is connected once it does.

  • the wifi connection is completly unuseable on v76 quest pro. Might wanna fix it 🙂

  • Confirming I have the exact same issue on my Quest Pro with v77 PTC. Wi-Fi speed is still completely broken. It's absolutely maddening and unbelievable that such a critical bug not only wasn't fixed from v76 but is being carried over, possibly even to the public release. I have ~zero confidence this will actually be fixed in v77.

  • Metas tech support is also confused and mixes up issues.

I wrote to Meta tech support stating that the Wi-Fi download speed on the Quest Pro is limited to around 400 MBit/s. I also included a comparison image where I compare the download speed of my Quest Pro and my Quest 3 (which is working fine, 1600MBit/s downstream) on the same network under the same conditions. However, the tech support thought it was about this Wi-Fi 7 issue  and closed the case.

It looks like they don't even know that there are currently two separate issues with the Wi-Fi connection and one only occurs only on Quest Pro.

Then V77 PTC released on Quest Pro and the buggy and limited Wifi Downloadspeed on Quest PRO carried over to V77 ... 🤢

  • Since yesterday, my airlink connection on my quest pro is broken, please fix it !!!

  • posting here as all the above posters have to say I have the same issue on a quest 2, ever since v76. where's the fix for us? is the one mentioned in the OP going to fix this issue too?

  • You're aware of what? Your app is **bleep**. It doesn't work. Quest 3 is a scam and you are shameless enough to create this topic? xD
