Right controller not working

The right controller on my 3s isn’t working. 
It has a flashing white light. All software is updated. When I go to pair the right hand on it says the right hand controller needs updating and updates software on it. I get a success message and the controller buzzes but then it says it can’t find the controller. Pairing doesn’t work. It has new batteries in. What can be done?
