Sudden double vision problems between Passthrough and UI?

Recently, my Quest 3's caught what I assume is a weird bug that's causing some kind of visual offset between the view that Passthrough captures and what the headset renders internally. If I focus on what I can see through Passthrough, I have to take a second to focus and clear up double vision, but that causes double vision on any UI elements that I focus on afterwards, necessitating that same second to refocus, and vice versa.
I've used this headset for over a year up to this point, and I had a Rift S for years before, so I don't believe it's an IPD or VR legs issue, I'm very accustomed to being in VR by now. This also seems to have broken a lot of the Q3's space vision features- the floor consistently appears in bizarre spots now, and it doesn't seem capable of recognising what room I'm in to use boundaries from memory anymore. I've played around with the IPD setting just in case, as well as restarted the headset more than a few times, and no dice. Is it screwed? What do?

    Hi Mezzmer,

Just dropping by to lend a helping hand!

It sounds like you're having quite a lot of trouble with your passthrough. We would love to discuss it more with you and get to the bottom of it!

Here are a things to take into consideration:

    • Ensure your cameras are clean, free of dust or scratches.
    • Ensure that your lenses are clean, free of dust, grease or scratches
    • Ensure your sensers are clean.
    • Double-check your IPD adjustments. It's not uncommon for a slight deviation in angle to cause visual distortion, especially in your peripheral view
    • Ensure that your refresh rate is set to 60hz

The headset's definitely clean, the refresh rate is definitely 60hz, and like I said, I've been through every IPD setting there is and not seen a fix. I've even gone and remeasured to make absolutely sure. I appreciate the help with troubleshooting!

        Hi again Mezzmer!

Thanks for getting back to us! Now that we can cross those possible causes off the list, we want to gather a better understanding of your issue.

        • Do you see the double vision only on the edges of the screens, in the center or all over?
        • Does this occur when standing still, when moving or all the time?
        • Can you attempt to send a screenshot or failing that, a photograph of the screen itself?
  • Just noting the same thing happened to me starting last night. I've run through the troubleshooting steps outlined above as well as updated to the latest OS available to me (78.1027). I've been advised from meta store support to try and factory reset but I haven't taken that step just yet.

In answer to the questions you asked

    • Do you see the double vision only on the edges of the screens, in the center or all over?
      • All over
    • Does this occur when standing still, when moving or all the time?
      • Both standing still or moving. When standing still I can focus on augmented reality (UI elements like the app store or menus) or I can focus on real objects in the pass through. But not both. It's as if the augments are being placed very differently for each eye. Moving forward and backward the effect is even more interesting. Virtual objects scale 'faster' then real objects do e.g. moving 1 ft forward in the real world moves virtual objects 2 ft closer to me
    • Can you attempt to send a screenshot or failing that, a photograph of the screen itself?
      • I took the video but the effect isn't visible in the 2d video. In fact the effect isn't visible if I close one eye or the other. Only if both eyes are open is it clear that virtual object depth has become disconnected from real world depth.
